Reagan offered Monday to let the
subcommittee see any documents that
the FBI obtains from Hoover or else-
where. The Justice Department is inves-
tigating whether laws were broken in the
Reagan campaign’s acquisition of docu-
ments prepared inside then-President
Jimmy Carter’s White House.

OU will manage to meet
the $2.9 million budget in-
crease it needs to cover ris-
ing costs through the use of
a non-operational fund,
the tuition increase and re-

areas.
The $2.9 million increase
is necessary to cover extra
utility costs, increased
fringe benefits (which in-
cludes social security and
health insurance), comput-
er needs, academic and
other critical needs.
The increase in utility
costs for the 1983-84 aca-

One ot the most important things for
people wishing to sign the petition to
remember is to be accurate, Brady said.
The signatures and information on the
petition must match perfectly with that
on the voter identification card, he said
The signer of the petition must sign
the petition that is for his or her county,
Brady said.
“If anyone wants to volunteer, he or
she must be a registered voter.” Brady
said. Once someone volunteers, the sig
natures he or she collects must be from
signers of the same county.

And a top Democrat, House Speaker
Thomas P. O’Neill, renewed his asser-
tion that that Congress should not be
investigating the matter.
“I'm not going to hang them; let them
hang themselves,” O’Neill said. Howev-
er, he made no move to stop the House
investigation.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A House
subcommittee chairman, investigating
possible 1980 political espionage, said
Tuesday he would subpoena original
Reagan campaign documents if, as the
White House suggested, total access is
restricted to the FBI.
The chairman’s comment prompted a
quick and wide-ranging Republican
response.
Deputy White House press secretary
Larry Speakes, Senate Republican Lead-
er Howard H. Baker Jr., House Repub-
lican Leader Bob Michel, and Rep. Ben
Gilman, a GOP member of the House
But, Rep. Donald J. Albosta, D-
Mich., chairman of the House subcom-
mittee in charge of the investigation,
said, “If the White House doesn’t agree
to turn those papers over, we’re going to
have to take action by the committee to
panel, all suggested the House investiga- subpoena those papers.”
Speaking on the NBC-TV “Today”
program, Albosta said he appreciated
Reagan’s offer Monday to let the panel
see documents the FBI gathers, but that
his investigators need to see all the
originals.
“We have a different purpose than
the FBI might have,” he said. “Theirs is
of a criminal nature and ours is a legisla-
tive nature. We are looking for a lot
more material, perhaps, than they would
be interested in.”
Earlier in the day, Los Angeles police had served
Steinberg with a subpoena directing him to produce
the tapes in Van Nuys Municipal Court on July 25, the
same day on which Marvin Pancoast, 33, is scheduled
to be arraigned on charges of beating Miss Morgan to
death last week with a baseball bat. Miss Morgan was
the mistress of the late department store heir Alfred
Bloomingdale, a close friend of President Reagan.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — An attorney who
said he had “embarrassing” videotapes of slain model
Vicki Morgan in sex scenes with government officials
reported the tapes were stolen from his law office
Tuesday, and he blamed “a member of the press
corps.”
The lawyer, Robert K. Steinberg, had said the tapes
showed two high-level “appointed officials” and a
congressman.

After refusing to confirm the theft for most of the
day, Steinerg told a mob of reporters as he left his
office that someone from the media was responsible
for the disappearance of the tapes.
“Someone from the press corps went into my library
this morning and took those tapes,” he said shortly
before driving off in his car. “We know which one it
was, and it’s under investigation.”
He declined to identify the individual.
