The River Channel
Commissioner Percy McElhin-
ey and an engineer from the
State Highway department were
here Tuesday looking over the
bridge and river at this point.
Th« engineer reported the propo-
sition to cut a View river channel
ifs quite feasible and gave Mayor
Browne a preliminary estimate
of the probable cost of getting
the work dona. They stated,
however, that it would be nec-
essary to have a survey made
and a course marked out by the
highway department before the
state highway running north
could be cut to make the pro-
posed nsw watercourse. They
recognized the emergency of the
situation and a survey was pro-
mised within a very few days
after which the work can be

The cutting of the state high-
way seems to be the main cause
of delav in changing the course
of the river. Action cannot be
had without the co-operation of
the state highway department,
and Commissioner McElhiney
seems to be doing his utmost to.

Basket Ball Games
On Friday night last the local
basket ball teams played a eoup-
le of good games here with the
Supply teams, boys and girls.
The May boys won by a score of
26 to 10, and the May girls lost
by 11 to 22. Both were good
games and cleanly played thru-
out. The May boys are develop
ing splendid form and team work
and we believe they will have a
big string of victories to theii
credit during the season. The
girls are also improving steadily
and will shortly be in winning
form.
The next games will be here
Friday night, a double header
against the Rosston boys and
girls. The Rosston team de-
feated May two weeks ago and
every effort will be made to re-
verse the result this time.

Cockroach Worst
Household Pest
For Sal©
By Dr. A. R. Lewis, State
Health Commissioner.
One of the worst pests to the
household is the cockroach.
He gets in the pantry, in the
bath tub and, worst of all, in
the refrigerator. He likes the
cool, damp places, so the refiig
erator is his special place of re-
treat.
While not a9 poisonous and
filthy as flies, yet the cockroach
is very insanitary, and by con-
stant association with a place,
gives it a very undesirable odor.
This is one of the best reasons
for keeping the cockroach out of
the refrigerator.
Milk placed in a refrigerator
or ice box will take up this odor
and "tastes just like cockroaches
smell”-: to use the householder's
expression.
One of the best remedies for
ridding the house and premises
of this pest is a mixture of gran-
ulated sugar and boracic acid.
The latter may be bought at
most any drug store and is not
expensive. Take about two tab-
's poons of each and mix thoro-
ly in a cup or saucer.
Sprinkle some of the mixtir •
in any place where the cockroach
is likely to go, but especially in
those places where he usually
gets his food. If he eats a small
amount of this he will die, and
as a rule, doesn’t get very far
away from the spot. It is well
then to watch all places where
the mixture has been spread,
and remove the dead insects.
A bunch of the boys went
down creek Sunday morning
looking for fur sign and hap-
pened on Gret Trower who im-
plored them to help him free a
couple of cows that bad got mil -
ed in the soft sand They start-
ed in willingly enough with ropes
and booh got one cow out. lho
other one didn’t seem interest-
ed in their efforts at first but
when she looked them over she
lost her temper; one of the boys
lost a rubber boot, and several
of them lost their Religion in try-
ing to get out ahead of the cow.
Floyd Strate was. as usual, the
last man to run but lie admits
that his boots were stuck fast
and the cow facing the other
way at first.
