Everyone seems to be delighted
with 1927
Don't overlook the roads Mr
Commissior Goan
The last part of 1926 was a record-
breaker for Tecumseh But 1927
promises to outshine 1926 several
times
Everybody is talking better times
for Tecumseh And say boy it is
having its effect and don't you for-
get it

What have you done to make your
community better? This year start
early and make every lick count for

Pottawatomie county is occupying

opment for 1927 If you want to see

WHO IS GUILTY?
It may be interesting to know
whether Mr Fall really has that
M1000 which Mr Doheny gave
him but is is more than interesting
it is itideed extremely important tt
know who has the navy's oil
The case against Mr Fall and Mr
Doheny was presented in such a way
that no self-respecting jury could do
other than acquit them It is not to
be expected that a jury would usurp
the functions of the prosecutor For
that reason we dissent from all dis-
approval of the jury and invite the
outsprken congressional critics to
direct their fire elsewhere
Mr Fall and Mr Doheny at best
are incidents The jury has said
they are not guilty but it could not
exonerate the government The gov-
ernment is guilty all the way along
It has been convicted of neglecting
its own affairs an of failing to safe-
guard important public rights Oil
companies cannot very well be
blamed for actiLg like oil companies
but a government can be blamed for
not acting like a government—Ex-
A VERY REMARKABLE EVENT
The other day an American gentle-
man celebrated his fifty-fourth birth-
day by taking the oath of office as
chief executive of his state for the
fourth time More notable still is
the fact that 40 years ago he was
merely one of thousands of urchins
on New York City's teeming east
side selling papers 1
The climb that boy has made in 40
years is one of America's greatest
epics It is worth calling attention
to ' for it is in awl achievements that
the Ambrican youth of today and to-
morrow must find his greatest in-
spiration Nor was there accident in GOT
Alfred Smith's climb upward To be
sure he was afforded opportunities
but also to be sure every American
youth is afforded opportunities The
difference between Smith and many
others is that young Smith embraced
his opportunities and made good Ile
has earned his political preferment
by conduct in office of the most' ex-
emplary character winning for him-
self the golden opinions of his fel-
low citizens
We are not particularly concerned
about what may attend the man in
the future being content to recom-
mend him as an example to lowly-
born American youth everywhere
and as additional proof if that were
necessary that it is almost always
the youth who faces difficulties and
obstacles who finally rises to the
crest of the wave
Comfortable ' placid waters do not
call for a fight!--Tulsa World
It costs the British government
$10 a week to keep a criminal In
prison
Rents in the United States are now
6 per cent lower than the peak
reached in July 1924

TILE lines upo which this country developed
during the first half century of its national
life were largely determined by the invention
of the cotton gin and application of steam to rail
and water transportation and to manufacturing
In 1890 the population of the entire Oklahoma
and Indian Territory was 258657—about the size
of the present-day population of Oklahoma's two
largest cities
Is it too much to say that what we call public
utility services have as powerfully affected national
and local development during the last half century
or that they have enlarged life increased business
multiplied comforts improved health spread hap-
piness and aided efficient living?
Through the performance of essential services
the growth and development of our organization
has gone hand in hand with that of Oklahoma and
a large number of her cities
