That the strenuous campaign put
on in recent years by this department
against Typhoid Fever has been of
great benefit to the State is clearly
demOnstrated by comparing the num-
ber of deaths from the dies3ase in
Oklahoma dazing 1928 to the num-
ber in 1927 when there were re-
' ported to this office 504 deaths from
Typhoid lever while in 1928 we
" have 333 thus showing a very much
appreciated decrease Typhoid fever
' is a preventable disease Immuniza-
tion and sanitation will eventually
eliminate it therefore we again
strongly advise the people of Okla
hems to get immunized with anti-
typhoid serum if they have not
already done so in the last two or
three yeare
-
Another preventable disease is
Diphtheria which always claims a
2 large number of young lives in Ok-
lahoma In 1927 as had $42 deaths
from this dread disease and in 1928
we had 874 showing an increase and
this after all the literature and ad
vice that has been sent out by this
deplirtment '-' as to the almost sure
lifelong immunity - to be obtained
- through the administration of Toxin-
antitoxin It is almost criminal neg-
ligence nowadays to lose a child
from diphtheria Toxin-antitoxin
will immunize 90 per cent of the
children to whom it is administered
six months or so after being im-
munized the child should receive
the "Schick Test" to see whether or
net be is immune If not the second
application will be necessary' to in-
sure 'complete immunity Let us do
' all in our power to eliminate' diph-
theria from our m-hist It can be done
if parents will see to it that their
children between the ages of six
' months and twelve years receive the
immunizing treatment of toxin-antitoxin
It is harmless leaves no maw
'and is followed by little or no reac-
tion ' -
One of the greatest destroyers of
human life is Pneumonia In 19271
we find there were 1975 deaths and
in 1928 there were 2822 deaths in
Oklahoma from this disease show-
ing a large increase due no doubt to
the prevalence of influenza last fall-
All the advice we can give to prevent
Pneumonia is to take the best care
of yourself on the first intimation
of a told as a common light cold
may possibly turn into pneumonia
-
Mr and Mrs George Byrd left the

Tires for new Ford
aye specially made
to give long wear
Though the Ford tires are
designated a 30 x 450
they have the resiliency and
air space of much larger
tires because of the drop
center rim of the steel-spoke
wheels
For best results the tires
on the new Ford should be
kept inflated to an air pres
sure of 35 pounds and
checked regularly to insure
this pressure all the time
This is important Low in-
nation breaks down the side
walls of a tire fly causing
overheating it also destroys
the rubber that acts as an
insulation with consequent
separation of the cord
At the end of each 5000
miles when you have the
front wheels packed with
It is a good plan to
Can'
have the wheel alignment
checked This will prevent
premature wear
When punctures come as
they will with any tire you'
will find the Ford dealer
:partictdarly welleequipped
to make repairs quickly and
at small cost See him toot
for replacements Then
you will be sure of getting
tires built specially for the
