Rev ROBERT B HARPER
MEMORIAL DAY
S UNDAY being Memorial Day
for our Country let us think
of its significance for our people
Manifestly it can be Just a date
on the calendar or a time of
great blessing to our people
A poet has written that "a land
without ruins is a land without'
memories" Though quite young
compared with other nations our
Country has gathered riches of
character from many countries
JUST A THOUGHT:
It is possible for "greatness"
to be a state of mind If all of
our deeds and actions are based
on sound thinking and pat-
terned according to our better
Judgment we continually be-
come a much better person

Does the color of the lure make
any difference to the fish? It's an
"iffy" question Sometimes op
parently it does Other times It
'
don't make a bit of difference
Tests conducted in the crystal
clear waters of Florida's Silver
Springs reveal that fish can tell
the difference between colors but
there Just isn't any evidence to
prove that they prefer one color
to another at any given time
Do's an outboard motor dia
turb the fish? Not at all says
one manufacturer who conducted
tests The studies showed that
fish payed scant attention to the
motors whizzing over their heads
Some of them even drifted up-
ward to closely inspect the bub-
bles left in the propellor's wake
Is it true that snakes are deaf?
Yep and their eyesight isn't any-
thing to brag about But don't feel
too sorry for the reptile Ire has
his own built-in radar system
that guides him to his prey
The bald eagle is an exceeding-
ly loyal and affectionate parent
It will not desert its young even
if the tree on which they are
nesting is in flames
Most people never heard of the
critter but those who know him
best consider him perhaps the
world's Most dangerous game
and possibly the most sought-after
trophy available to hunting er
thusiasts The guar or Indian
bison has the proportions of a
bulldozer the agility of a deer
and the disposition of a grizzly
bear with a cocklebur under his
tail Even the tiger gives the guar
a wide berth and the Roman
contests pitting the two animals
against each other proved the
guar more than a match for the
fabled tiger
Rattlesnakes contrary to popu-
lar belief do not seek to avenge
the death of a mate They are
probably attracted to the death
scene by scent
