The fact that music can bring
certain color: to mind has long
been recognized by psychologists
Two of them Henry S Odbert
and Theodore F Karowski found
that—out of 143 college students
—39 per cent were able to "see"
a color or colors while listening
to music Of the number 53 per
cent were able to associate a
color and 31 per cent felt a color

have been made to fashion color

Daisy the Cow Rescues
Farmer from Burning Barn
North Hampton N H—Derwin
E Fuller lost 65 head of cattle
and two horses in a fire that de-
stroyed his barn He almost lost
his own life—he was saved by
Daisy his favorite cow
When the fire broke out Fuller
ran into the barn trying to free
the animals lie started to lose
consciousness in the smoke
"I felt a nudge in my back as
I started to fall" he recalled
later "I threw my arms around
it and held on It knocked down
a door and dragged me outside"
Sure enough it was Daisy
Search for Most
Vital Idea Turns
Up Large Variety
PROVIDENCE R I — Phillips
Stevens headmaster of Williston
academy at Easthampton Mass
wanted to find out if students could
be taught only one idea what idea
should that be?
In his search for an answer he
telegraphed the question to a group
of persons ranging from Andrei
Vishinski Russia's foreign minister
to Gypsy Rose Lee
Neither Vishinski or the strip tease
dancer replied but from others he
got a variety of answers:
Bernard Baruch: "The principal
thing to teach is physical and men-
tal discipline and sell-reliance"
William Green president of the
American Federation of Labor:
"The value of freedom liberty and
democracy and the obligation of
every individual to serve in every
possible way in the preservation of
these vital principals"
Francis Cardinal Spellman arch-
bishop of New York: "I exhort and
encourage you to live truth in
charity Your love of truth will
make you peacemakers in a world
that dreads war and fears enslave-
ment" Frank Lloyd Wright noted archi-
tect: "Our democracy fails unless
our architects free themselves to
build with style for men themselves
free of a style"
Warren Austin chief American
delegate to the United Nations:
"Gain a thorough understanding of
the principles which are absolutely
necessary to keep government free
and to maintain the blessings of
liberty"
Grouch° Marx: "The Kinsey re-
port should be required reading un-
less the school is co-educational In
that case nature will provide the
necessary answers"
Italian Nationalists Fear
Next May Be Foreign Pope
ROME Italy — For the first time
in centuries the next Pope could be
a non-Italian
There have been many non-Italians
in the Pontificate—Adrian IV
was an Englishman and there have
been a number of Germans—but for
several centuries now all Popes
have been Italian Up to 1918 the
Italian cardinals had an absolute
majority in the Sacred College but
that is no longer true for there are
many foreign cardinals
Now the nationalists in the church
fear that if a foreign cardinal is of-
fered as a successor to Pope Pius
XII—who is in poor health—the for-
din cardinals might vote together
for him They are asking: Will
Cardinal Spellman be the first
American Pope?
