Editor Tines:—
It is s gloomy muddy day7but after a
visit to Prof Scotts pleasant school I find
sunny spots on the path of life even in a
school room The Sixth reader class were
engaged hi reading The lesson—"La
Fayette and Robert Iikes"—One a noted
French General who nobly left his native
land and came (with money and arms) to
help America in her struggle for freedom
from the Mother Country Robert Raikes
was noted as the English printer who first
started Sunday Schools in Prof Scott's
room are thirty pupils comprising the 5th
and 6th grades After the reading class
came a review in history with the following
questions written on the board:
jut—Cause of Revolution
2od—Name some Generals and battle
3rd—Lexington
ath—Treaty
5th—Conatitution when adopted
fith—Different administrations
7th— Steam boat and telegraph
Sth—Louisiana purchase
fith—Causes of Mexican war
10th—Civil war causes and battles of
Bull-Run
Prof Scott is doing good work and hie
pupils are models of courteey aid good
deportment
After leaving the quiet school room of
Prof Scott Veritaa went on a low doors
east and found the sohool taught by Misses
Grey and Nix Miss Grey's class in 1
history had a review Subject early set–
tlements and discoveries after which her
pupils were drilled in the different methods
of notation The Roman and Arabic The
ehildren seemed to understand the differ-
erica and their answers were in the main
correct In the adjoining room is the first
and second grades taught by Mies Nix She
has ixty-one pupils and Miss Grey thirty
The first reader doss was reciting when I
entered and at its close Miss Nix gave a
familiar lesson in numbers on the black
board Some of her pupil have never
been In school before It id very difficult
to intermit children of this age and grade
It is enough to keep thun busily engaged
all the time and indeed it ought not to be
expected The dear children are having
their happiest time before the cares of ille
press heavily May nor teachers have love
and patience and never forget that we were
once all Children VERITAS
