HEALTH RULES

Moves To Prevent Outbreak
Of Infantile Paralysis In
Garvin County Are Taken
Dr Hugh H Monroe superintendent
of the Garvin county health depart-
ment today ordered that children
who have played with the Tompkins
child suffering from infantile par-
alysis be kept in their own yards for
two weeks
The child's illness was diagnosed as
poliomyelitis (infantile paralysis) and
the child whose home is in the 1000
block North Willow was sent to the
crippled children's hospital in Okla-
homa City
Acting to prevent a spread of the
disease in the county following the
reporting of the first case in the
county the health officer also set
down other rules to be followed
All children having a fever from an
unknown cause should be seen im-
mediately by a physician he said
"As a precautionary measure all
children should stay out of swim-
ming pools picture shows and other
public places where people are
gathered together" the county health
officer said
Doctor Monroe also said that tonsil
and other minor operations should
not be performed at this time
While there have been numerous
cases of the disease reported in recent
days in Oklahoma and Texas the
Pau ls Valley case is the only one
that has been reported in Garvin
county

RED DYING
Floyd L Dixon Succumbs
After Wandering Near
Stratford Several Days
Absent from his home in Shawnee
five days presumably on a visit to
relatives at St Louis Okla Floyd L
Dixon 71 died Monday at the Mercer
store eight miles south of Stratford
on highway 18 shortly after residents
of the vicinity found him laying be-
side the highway in a serious condi-
tion A coroner's jury which conducted
an inquest found his death was due
to natural causes probably a heart
attack induced by the extreme heat
Dixon who made his home in Shaw-
nee with his son-in-law H N Hilton
left there last Wednesday Hilton
said to visit relatives at St Louis
Residents of the vicinity south of
Stratford said they saw him there as
early as last Thursday One farmer
reported Dixon came to his home a
mile from the highway Friday un-
able to talk except to say "road" He
pointed out the direction to the high-
way Saturday he was seen lying in a
shade beside the road but the resi-
dents of the vicinity presumed he was
resting Sunday he was seen there
again and when some of the residents
went to where he was lying he raised
up as if awakened and believing he
was sleeping they did not attempt to
question him
Monday when it was discovered he
still was lying in the same place they
returned to investigate and found
him in a dying condition He was
taken to the Mercer store and an
ambulance was summoned but be
died before it arrived He apparent-
ly had gone without food or water for
several days
The body was brought to the Stuf-
flebean Funeral home here and was
forwarded Monday night to Tecum-
seh for burial

$220 A Ton Would Ruin
Farmers lie States
WASHINGTON July
contemplated rollback in the price of
broomcorn was protested today by
Representative Monroney
on the ground it would be ruinous to
the Industry
The board of economic stabiliza-
tion had recommended a $220 a ton
top price and this figure "would be
absolutely ruinous to any farmer who
participated in raising brootncorn"
"It would cause the lower yielding
crop to not be harvested and what
crops are harvested could be held
until the price comes up"
Monroney terthed disetiminatory the
fixing of a ceiling at $220 a ton on
early crop while the Lindsay Okla
market was ceded as the best in the
world and would have to equal this
mark of $220
There Is a shortage of broomcorn
right now and the manufacturers have
recommended the $300 top and the
schedule for this year's crop and next
year's planting" Monroney said
"The farmer just won't bring a crop
ir at $220 a ton They will work in
the airplane factory instead and farm
help is already at a premium" the
Oklahoma representative said in pro-
testing the ceiling price
