tions presented by various groups and individuals.

There have already been several entries, but more are welcome, “We will have a wide
variety ofchili and barbecue styles...we want everyone to have an opportunity to try as
many recipes as possible," said Leslie Briscoe. To enter, contact Main Street Altus at

ATLANTA (AP) — Federal
courts are experiencing a
"mounting vacancy crisis" be-
cause Senate politics has
slowed the confirmation of ju-
dicial nominees, President
Clinton told the nation’s
largest lawyers’ group.
"We simply cannot afford to
allow political considerations
to keep our courts vacant and
to keep justice waiting," the
president told the American
Bar Association at its annual
meeting Monday.
Clinton said the slow
process of confirming judicial
nominees was thwarting the
administration of justice.
The Senate confirmation
process “can be an unneces-
sarily long and grueling
process that I believe serves
neither the judiciary nor the
nation," he said. “Despite the
high qualifications of my
nominees, there is a mount-
ing vacancy crisis in the
courts."
“The worst effects of the
slowdown are making them-
selves felt across our coun-
try," the president said. “Ex-
