secutive 3-pointers by Davis before
Texas rallied.
The Longhorns started little-used
guard Jai Lucas for Brown, but he
had just one basket in 21 minutes. It
was Brown's 3-pointer that pulled
Texas even at 38-all before
Oklahoma's Tiny Gallon hit a short
jumper at the halftime buzzer.
The Sooners quickly pushed the
lead back to 11 after the break.
Crocker opened the second half with
a backdoor dunk that started a 9-0
run.
But Crocker had to leave the
game briefly after turning his ankle,
and Texas rallied again.
James’ pass to Pittman for an
alley-oop dunk tied it at 56-all.
Brown's floating bank shot with
9:08 to play then gave Texas its first
lead before James hit a tough basket
in the lane.
The Sooners never challenged for
the lead again as the shots that were
falling in the first half started
bouncing out. Crocker and Davis
missed open 3-pointers, and Texas
its lead to 68-60 when
Pittman made a layup. Brown’s dri-
ving layup with 2:12 to play put
Texas up by 11.
“The thing that may be the best
thing for us, is we find ourselves at
the most important time,” Texas
coach Rick Barnes said. “And the
last 15 minutes, we played our best
ball.”
Texas A&M two days earlier, didn't
start but finished with 15 points and
five assists. Jordan Hamilton had 12
points and II rebounds and Dexter
Pittman and Gary Johnson each
scored 14 points. The Longhorns
shot 54 percent and outrebounded
Oklahoma 38-21.
Brown was cleared to play just a
couple of hours before the game.
"It was real scary. Nothing like
that ever happened to me. I hit my
head, and my whole left side went
numb, and 1 just closed my eyes."
Brown said.
Team trainers later said he had a
neck strain, and Brown said by
Monday. "I had no doubt 1 was
going to play.”
Oklahoma (13-16, 4-11) contin-
ues to struggle through a disappoint-
ing season. The Sooners have lost
seven in a row but had a chance to
snap that streak when they built dou-
ble-digit leads in both halves.
“They were the tougher team
down the stretch. I thought we were
the better team for 31 minutes."
Oklahoma coach I fl Cap I said
Tony Crocker scored 24 points to
lead Oklahoma. Cade Davis scored
22 points, much of it coming in a
first-half flurry of 3-pointers. The
Sooners made 10 3s, but just three
after halftime.
The Sooners beat the Longhorns
earlier this season and early in this
one looked capable of their first sea-
son sweep since 2005. Oklahoma

AUSTIN. Texas (AP) - After
such a miserable month of February,
Texas can't help but hope March
will be much better.
For now it is.
Senior Damion James scored 24
points in his final home game and
the struggling Longhorns rallied for
an 87-76 win over Oklahoma on
Monday night.
Earlier in the day, Texas (23-7, 9-
6 Big 12) became the first team
since Alabama in 2003 to drop out
of The Associated Press rankings
after reaching No. 1 for the first time
in school history in January.
Since then, it's been a string of
tough losses, injuries and one long
tumble into the ranks of the
unranked.
James said he’s had enough of
that.
"That’s in the past." James said.
"(Tonight) is a new month.”
And most importantly , it's March,
the right time for a team as talented
as Texas to turn things around. The
Longhorns end the regu ar season on
Saturday at No. 21 I aylor. Then
comes next week's Big 12 tourna-
ment.
"We’ve been at the very top and
bottom. It doesn't feel good to be at
bottom. 1 like being at the top much
more. " James said.
The Longhorns, so inconsistent
over the last month, got scoring and
plays from everyone on the court.
