ALTUS AFB—For months, Altus Air Force Base has been gearing
up for the arrival of its newest weapons system. All those efforts will
culminate Saturday with the arrival of Altus AFB’s first C-17
Globemaster in.

The ceremony will kick off at approximately 12:45 p.m., with the
arrival of the official party. At about 1 p.m., the C-17 touches down
cm the Altus AFB runway. After the aircraft's arrival there will be
remarks by several dignitaries, including Fogleman, Rutherford,
Boles, Inhofe and Watts.
The base opens to the public at 11:30 a.m. Those driving should
be on base and parked as soon as possible. Because of
parking, the 97th Transportation Squadron is providing a shuttle
bus service for military family housing residents on Saturday. The
shuttle bus begins transporting housing residents at 11:30 a.m.
The arrival of the first C-17 won't be a small affair. Base
expect hundreds of base and city people will visit the Altus AFB
flightline to welcome the base's "new kid on the block."
A number of Air Force and civilian dignitaries will also visit Altus
AFB to welcome the base's newest aircraft. Attending the ceremony
are Gen. Ronald R. Fogleman. Air Force chief of staff, and is wife.
