Justin Collier, 29, of Granite, rolled his Kia sports utility vehicle
Thursday north of Altus near the Martha Y on U.S. Highway 283.
According to reports, Collier was under the influence of prescription
medication and ran off the right side of the highway. He was charged
and arrested for driving under the influence of drugs. Collier was treat-
ed at the scene for minor injuries. Trooper Tyler Shelby worked the
accident. Also responding were the Jackson County Sheriff’s office and
the Altus Fire Department.

City Council to hold
special public hearing
Altus City Council has announced that they will
hold a special public hearing at 5:30 p.m. April 15 in
Council Chambers.
The public hearing will be on the question of
annexing 160 acres north of Altus to be developed as
a residential development known as “The
Homestead.'’ Comments by property owners, adja-
cent property owners and representatives of the city
may be made. Audience comments will be heard.

An Altus woman has
reported that she was con-
tacted by phone by a man
claiming to be with
Medicare, and got irate with
her when she wouldn't give
him personal information
including her social security
number.
“The man said 1 needed to
sign up for a second
Medicare card," said the
woman. “When 1 wouldn’t
give my personal informa-
tion, he said he was going to
cancel my current Medicare
card and 1 wouldn't have one
at all if I didn't cooperate
with him. He got very mad."
After the call, the woman
contacted Medicare herself
and was told there wasn't
any second card that needed
to be obtained.
