Behind the 20 point outbursts
of Carol Claiborne and Diane
Riley, and the outstanding
defensive work by guards Pam
Fisher, Sylvia Fisher and
Beverly Baugh, the Altus
Lassies triumphed over Moore
41-31.
Coach Randy Sullivan's crew,
which upped their seasons
record to 16-5, had problems
finding the bucket the first half,
but good defensive work was
able to hold down Moore’s
scoring attack
The Lassies were only able to
score 13 points the first half, 7
the first quarter, 6 the second,
but were lucky as Moore could
only score 15 of their own, and
led after the half 15-13.
The third quarter proved to be
the winning factor for the
Lassies, as their forwards found
their range for 14 points, and the
guards held Moore to just 4 and
took the led after three, 27-19.
The fourth period was a little
more exciting as both Altus and
Moore scored heavily, 14 and 12
respectively, but t the Lassies
were able to hang on to a 41-31
victory.
Claiborne and Riley both had
20 points, while Cooper had one.

Bulldogs, as they were able to
put a 5 point spread after one. 15-
10, and later to build a 7 point
margin in the second quarter.
However the Wolves battled
back to a 28-25 deficit at the half.
The third quarter was the
break the wolves needed, as
Altus continued to foul, and the
Wolves continued to hit their
free-throws. It was in this

the Bulldogs of Coach Clester
Harrington raised their season
record to (12-7), and conference
record to (5-4), by beating the
Eagles of Lawton Eisenhower
69-55.
It was the 13 points scored by
Coursey in the first half and the
16 points scored by Shaw in the
second half, which seemingly
paved the way to victory.
The first quarter proved to be
the coldest for the Bulldogs as
they could only score 11 points to
the Eagles 17, and trailed after
one quarter, 17-11.

In the third stanza, the

Altus vs Moore
Here, Friday
Even though the regular
football season is over, there is
still some activity, involving this
sport, going on. The activity
which I am speaking about, is
the recruiting of exceptional
high school athletes, five of
which Altus has signed to the
college ranks.
John Trest, an Alternate All-
Stater in football, and top-rate
pitcher in baseball, has received
a 4-year full-scholarship to the
University of Oklahoma The
scholarship is a combination
football-baseball. and his
coaches will be Barry Switizer
and Don Jimerson
Gary Irions, also an Alternate
All-Stater in football, will be
going to Oklahoma State
University on a 4-year full-
scholarship for football His
coach there will be Jim Stanley.
John Walker, Altus’ only first
team All-Stater, will be heading
to Northwestern in Alva, to play
under Bob Thompson Joining
him there at Alva, are two other
outstanding Altus High players.
Craig Box and Randy Jackson,
All-Conference guard and
linebacker, will also be playing
under Bob Thompson. All three
have received full-scholarships
except for books.
Congratulations and Good-
Luck from the Collar.

second period when they had
given up the lead.
But the fourth quarter did the
Eagles in, as two quick Bruce
Harrington baskets and two
Altus free throws gave the
Bulldogs a commanding 54-45
lead, with 5:31 left in the contest.
Lawton scored two buckets of
their own to narrow the gap at
57-49, but eight unanswered
points by the Bulldogs wrapped
up the game, as Altus coasted to
a 69-55 victory . Again it was the
hot shooting of a Bulldog foward
which gave the Eagles
problems, as Roger Shaw
poured in 16 of his 18 points in the
last half.
