Attracts Students
There is gambling going on at good ole Altus High School. Where?
Well, just take your money and go to any of the machines which are
posted around the school, they can be recognized by the knobs and
buttons on them.
Still don’t know what I’m talking about? Well it’s the vending
machines, or the no-armed bandits as they are also known. I doubt
if there is anyone in school who has not lost money to one machine
or another.
The machines in the gym are particularly bad. I have had the
experience of buying some crackers for 25 cents ( no change), then
trying to buy a coke from one machine (and losing another 25
cents) then trying to get one from the machine next to it with the
same result.
Now’ it’s not that I’m against the school making a little profit, but,
I think that this is going too far. The machines, in all probability are
in bad need of repair but I have seen no one fixing them.
So if the bite of the machine strikes again, why not add your dent
to the others whose dents will go immortally down in Bulldog
history.

It is important for the student
to file for the financial aid at the
college of his choice either
before or during enrollment.
The amount of financial aid
available to a student is usually
determined by the amount of
family income, and the number
of brothers and sisters in school.
Colleges can offer package
deals where the student can earn
money under the many work
study programs. The programs
include working as office aides,
teachers aides, and in the
ground and athletic depart-
ments.

Shine Light
On AHS
There is a select group of
students in this school that are
studying to develop their
journalistic talents by writing
and printing the school
newspaper. This article is
written in the appreication of
these students and an outreach
to you the student for your un-
derstanding.
Long hours of preparation are
put into the production of the
paper. This is not only classroom
work but the actual printing of
the paper at the newspaper
office.
These people although seeking
a grade are also willing to put in
extra time for the development
of their skills so that they might
put out a better paper.
Darkness can be a strange and
questionable position to be in,
and it is the job of this
newspaper of shine a radiatnt
light on the activities of this
school.
Having the opportunity to
write for a newspaper is quite an
experience but the need to know
what your readers are interested
in comes into the picture.
The Collar is your newspaper
so let it be known what you want
to hear about, any questions you
might have, or even complaints
you have about the paper. We
will set up a column and answer
and all questions or complaints
that are sent in the search of
knowledge or the improvement
of your paper.
The suggestion box will be set
up outside Mrs. Pettit’s room for
all those interested in shedding
some light on the schools ac-
tivities or the notorious writings
of this reporter.
Loans can be had through
either the federal government,
or individual banks.
The interest is only 3 per cent,
and no interest is tacked on or
any payments are required
while the student is still in
school.

with Mr. Rankin, senior coun-
selor, any tune before or during
school.
With graduation just around
the bend many seniors are
having trouble trying to find a
way to go to college.
Money seems to be the
greatest draw-back, but with the
many financial aid programs
offered by colleges and in-
dividual institutions, any student
who really wants to go to college
is given the opportunity.
If you happen to be one of the
many students looking for a
fiancial aid program to help you
through the next four years, the
best place to start is down the
hall in the counselor’s office.
There you will be given an
American College Testing
Financial Form to be filled out
by you and your parents, and
sent to the address that is on the
package.
The people at the firm will
then notify the college you have
indicated on the form of your
interest in the college and your
need for help in financing a
college career.
The college will then deter-
mine the amount, if any, of
financial aid they can offer you,
and will then notify you of their
find.
Only certain colleges and
institutions will accept the ACT
Financial Form. Examples
include Altus Junior College and
