ATTENTION
JUNIORS, SOPHOMORES, FRESHMEN!
On Thursday, May 11 each of you will be faced with
the important decision of electing your Student
Council members for next year. This is an important
decision because it will directly effect each of you.
The Student Council was formed to be a laison
between the students and the administration.
Therefore you must choose a person that Is capable of
exercising good judgment in his decisions. A Student
Council member must be completely interested and
supportative of the school. This does not mean that he
must agree with each decision of the Council or the
administration, and he must be willing to put his
personal preferences aside when he is overruled.
It takes an enthusiastic Student Council to create a
certain amount of interest in student affairs on the
part of the faculty. These council members must
propose ideas that are beneficial to both the students
and the faculty if the Council ever plans to merit the
support of the faculty. Many of the graduating seniors
feel that there has been a more apathetic atmosphere
among faculty members than in the two years
preceding this one. Part of this was due to the laxity of
the Student Council when it came to creating interest
in student affairs.
One of the most important traits to look for in the
student running for Council is “how well do they work
with other people and how diplomatic are they with
others?" These two qualities are important because
Council members must be able to work together.
There cannot be a united student body if there is not a
united Student Council.
Students should attempt to achieve a representative
balance both sexually and racially. In the past the
majority of the Council members have served well
even though there was not always a balance. A
candidate's sex or race should not be allowed to bias
your opinion either way.
The importance of your vote cannot be stressed
enough. Please don't allow your friends to determine
the way you vote. Think for yourself and be able to
justify your vote next year when someone says the
member you voted for is not good. Will you be able to
say "Yes he or she is. You're being unfair."
