Osage tribal capitol today as In-
dian tribesmen balloted to select
a chieftain in the tribe's quadren-
nial election
Chief Fred Lookout was pitted
against Paul Red Eagle as factions
worked frantically to secure fur-
ther support for their candidates
Lookout was advocated by pro-
gressives and independents Red
Eagle was supported by a new
party: the full bloods-mixed bloods
affiliation
Flying fists were expected to re-
lieve the tedium since a candid-
ate may be indorsed by several
parties but the secretary of the
interior previously had ruled that
ballots shall show names only
omitting party affiliation
The nuestion of women's suff-
rage still held top ranking despite
its veto by the Indian commis-

inspect personally the scene of a

OKLAHOMA CITY June 8—
The Oklahoma Patrol maintained
a monthly average of saving 11
and a fraction lives during each
of the five months that have
elapsed this year according to a
report issued today by J MGen-
try State Safety Commissioner
During the five months the
state's fatality record was 154 or
57 less than the same period in
1937 and 97 less than the same
period in 1936 The patrol began
its activities July 15 1937 -
May was the fourth month this
year that traffic deaths were re-
' duced The total for the month
was 33 compared to 45 in May of
1937
The last week-end in the month
just passed soared the total with
nine deaths Previous week-ends
in May had but a small number
of fatalities compared to week-
lends in other months
1 Pedestrian deaths showed an
!appreciable decrease only five be-
ing recorded Fatal crashes oc-
lcuring on curves and grades each
claimed six lives while six other
fatal crashes were blamed to ye-
