President Harold W Dodds of
Princeton university was invited to
settle the difficulty He went to

what parties they would adhere to
Dr Dodds set Jan 15 as the elect-

Candidates denounced this pro-
gram too Menocal withdrew from
the race and other candidates pre-
paled to withdraw leaving the field
to Gcniez Menocal demanded that
to resign and after a Joint
meeting of the cabinet and council
of state which lasted until the early

peace
But the indication was that the
election would have to be postponed
John Can Overlook Plot to
Kill HitnHe Wants His Cow
'KANSAS CITY Mo Dec 11--
UR—John Best doesn't mind
the murder attempt against his
life but he'd like to have his cow
back
Best is a practical patriotic
fanner He realizes if he is mur-
dered American agriculture will
continue He also realizes if he
does not get his cow back he
cannot keep his own farm going
very well and that after all is
more important
So when he was brought here
today and told by city detectives
that a man and a woman who
posed as his wife had confessed
a plot to murder him for 612000
insurance he asked the woman
Mrs Sallie Alice Baker what she
did with his cow
"I lent her that cow last sum-
mer" Best explained "and now
it's gone She said it's at a
neighbors but I can't find it I
want my cow"
Patiently detectives explained
that Mrs Baker 42 and Clar-
ence Ketron 46 paroled convict
had confessed they plotted to

Bye-O-Baby Buntin'
Daddy Went-a-huntin'
To get a Little 'possum skin
To wrap his Baby up in
And if this little ditty is true
Baby Buntin' almost faced winter
without a opossum skin Yes sir
folks it was nearing the midnight
! hour when IVEr Hound yapped at
the foot of a large oak tree and
the hunting party became aware
I that there was a opossum in "them
thar limbs"
It was one of those final min-
ute rallies—the party had become
disgusted and turned back Then
came the welcoming barks those
barks the party had been waiting
to hear all evening and what a
thrill and joy it was that stirred
within the hearts of the hunters
A Dark Beginning
The end of this story might be
—at first there was no luck All
looked black and what a disgrace
it would be returning to town
without the victim Then came
the barks of the two hounds—the
hunting party will tell you today'
"Yes we brought in two opos-
sums" For the people who do not know
exactly what this is all about let
us explain The hunters were the
noble young men of the Junior
Chamber of Commerce—the hunt
was staged in the woodlands just
northwest of Agra—it was last
night in the light of a full moon
As the clock ticked away the
minutes nearing the hour of nine
the Jaycee hunters fifteen in all
with fifteen hearts beating with
the thrill of a Daniel Boone left
their autos on the outskirts of thel
woods and started out in search'
of opossums
A Merry Merry Party
The two hounds with wagging 1
tails went galloping into the lead1
Every now and then a ribbon of
light from a flashlight would fall
against the trees Now there was
only the rustling of the dead
leaves on the ground and barking
of watch-dogs on close by farms
to break the silence of the night
It was a merry party at the
first no one can deny Tranalp1

day decided motion picture work
Ehould be listed among dangerous
occupations after each suffered a
minor accident
Miss Stanwyck was burned by
exploding corned beef hash Miss
Davis had an embedded wood tick
removed from her arm
The scenario in Miss Stanwyck's
picture based on the Spanish-
American war called for Wallace
Berry and John Boles to cook
corned beef hash over a soldier's
campfire Miss Stanwyck was
watching the hash when it flared
Miss Davis will be unable to act
president any member of Mendieta's
government because all were partial
Now Mendieta a national respect-
ed manmay be persuaded to run
for constitutional president on the
national union ticket
It was believed that Barnet also
might step out In order that a figure
acceptable to all factions could be
named provisional president and ar-
range the election

Plot to Murder
Prince is Foiled
1 LONDON Dec 11---(19)---A plot
to assassinate Prince Paul of Jugo-
slavia has been foiled bythe Bel-
1 grade police the Daily Mail's cor-
respondent in the Jugoslav capital
traPorted today
!hire a man to kill Best for three
insurance policies totaling $12-
000 which Mrs Baker held on
Best
"I ain't got any insurance and
that woman ain't my wife" Best
explained "Besides I want my
caw back" Best glanced at Ket-
ron and then asked Thomas J
Higgins detective chief if he
could see Kotron alone for fivei
minutes I
"I'll fix him" Best promised
"If he would help Sallie try to
murder me I bet he would run
off with a fellow's cow" Mg-
gins overruled Best's request for
five minutes with Ketron and
went ahead with the examina-
tion of the three principals
Subsequent questioning reveal-
ed that Mrs Baker was known
as Best's wife although she lived
in Kansas City and he on his
farm They had known each
other for 15 years
Mrs Baker and Ketron were
arrested Monday after a negro
revealed to pollee he had been
hired by Ketron to kill Best
comfortable stump and tell a fav-
orite story Then off again—
tramp tramp tramp At li:st the
tranting without the sign of a
opossum was just plain fun with
the boys making cracks about how
to catch opossums and "who sug-
gested this hunt?" But the hours
whittled away—and Mr Opossum
had not hem seen The boys to
be truthful became a little tired
First one and then the other
would sound off with "Come on i
lets turn around or rest awhile"
And Were They Downcast?
The night was just the same
the stars still twinkled and the
old moon still looked down with
that broad smile—but the boys
were not as gay as in the open-
ing scene They will tell you un-
til this day that they walked at
least ten miles—how far it really
was no one can truthfully say
But it was a good little jaunt The
I vote was taken — "Turn back
Warriors turn back!"
So back through the woodland
went the Jaycee hunters with
hearts as heavy as lead The
breeze had whipped into a cold
stinging wind and the suggestion
to build a fire was made— and
while the dry wood piled into a
heap burned the hunters ate Not
game they had brought in—just
sandwiches brought from home
A Sure-enough Opossum
The party seemed to take on a
little more life—the boys were en-
joying this part of the hunt most
of all—then from a nearby tree—
the bark of the hounds It was
like all the bats of Hades had
broke loose—the hunters let go a
yell of joy and made for the tree
in one mad dash A opossum—a
sure-enough live opossum!
It took only a few minutes work I
with all hands on deck—the Mr
Opossum was a prisoner in the
hands of desperate hunters A few
minutes later the hounds yapped
again at another nearby tree—it
was another opossum
Two—that was all but the Jay-
cees are happy even if it wasn't
enough to go around to the fif-
teen !members of the party So
now somewhere today a few of the
boys are digging into sweet pota-
toes and opossum—and a right
swell dish it is
for several days as a result of the
operation to remove the tick Phy-
sicians believed the insect became
imbedded in her flesh while she
was working in outdoor scenes of
