For the past two or three years
Mrs Joe Long has been the chief or-
ganizer and in fact the heart soal
and directing genius of a Chreysan-
them show in Cushing
This year Mrs Long vent to Eu-
lope and the result WEIS that the chry-
santhemum show went to pot At
least the public :ma of the shw
failed entirely to be held
Anyone who happen by Mrs
Long's hcbse at 715 East Cherry and
can glimpse the glortow beauty of
the blooming chrysanthemums in her
backyard will eertainly nct think the
show failed for her at lea-4
Such a wealth of beau: es it con-
tains would cairse the casu 1 observer
to think a great deal of att:ntion had
been given them but Mrs Iwng says
his is not the case
"Chrysanthemums are not much
reuble considering how generously
hey yield beauty and fragrance—
ust give them some good soil and a
ittle water and they will repay You
I hundred fold For perfect blos-
soms it is necessary to see that a
'art of the buds are pinched away
nd they are sprayed some to keep
he plants free from insects And
hen just let them bloom"
All the flowers aren't cut of doors
It Mrs Long's however—indoors you
'ind the rooms transformed into a
'eritableflower show with every
thing from the "teeniest" baby to
tuge Poms--all hou egrctvn—
ome not l'rom Mrs Long'- gard2n
:ut from her neighbor's gardens
! Mrs Long has given away hund
eds of chrysanthemum slips and has
:Pent much time trying to help sora:1
his gospel of flower beauty Maybe
-t is slow work—but we'll VCnIllre
io prophesy that it's results will b?
nost lasting
EUBenson and Dr Benjamin Day-
s went duck hunting this morning
Ind had fair lock—they got a 'pot-
um Here's Dr Davis' account—in
As nearly his own words as we caa
vmember:—
"You know it really was -all—
mite surprising Just about 5:30
hie morning we noticed in the road
I little gray animal In th2 rather
mcertain light I could hardly see
vhat it was but Mr Benson seemed
'fell acquainted with the breed an:3
leclared right off that it was a
possum
"He got out of the car and juA
ticked a little twig—it Wa much
nora of a switch than a stick and
appcd the fellow across the head
Ile 'possum fell right over but ap-
Narently wasn't hurt because after
pending a certain amount of time in
t sull or trance he was alive and all
ight The whole- thing wa aston-
'shing to me—I thought 'possume
vere caught with dogs He looked
The ard fat—I was sorry there were-
n't two"
Yes indeed apparently Mr Benson
is a duck hunter is a fine 'possum
-nteher No doubt Dr Davis will be
'eund carrying a small twig in his
lir in the future for use in catching
'possums
