MY THANKS TO
THE CITY COUNCIL
By Bill Wingo
I would like to express my grati
tude to the members of the town
r board of trustees 'for their consid-
eration of a stop and go traffic
1 light at the intersection of Main and
Fourth Street They discussed the
possibility of Installing one at their
last meeting—and this is a good
gig-n that We will have one eventual-
ly possibly soon
I was told one councilman was for
the installation one against and one
undecided This is a nece-ssary step
that all governing bodies take in
most instances and it is a healthy
one For such an Important step It
would be very foolish to decide at
the fir st consideratic to install a
traffic light Investigation surveys
and public opinion are a must for
this project and the members of
the council showed good conunon
horse sense in postponing buying of'
the light until they can get facts
figures and wants of the people they
serve
Money that has been spent on the
caution light at Fourth and Main
will certainly not be wasted It can
be used at any number of intersec-
trons in Granite with the Baptist
church corner probably the znost
I likely spot
But with a stop and go traffic
light at the bank corner a caution
light at the Baptist church corner
traffic coming from the north on
Main at least would be slowed down
to where it would not be so dan-
gerous in the business section
Coming from the south traffic
does not have as much a chance
to gain speed before coming to the
bank intersection as they do from
the north what with a slight in-
cline and a T Intersection with high-
way 9 However a 'stop and go
light at the 'r or -Main and highway
9 would certainly not hurt anything
But Granite could go to work on -
that project later after- first com-
pleting the project at hand
I can assure the council that when
they do buy the traffic light thtzt
It will be appreciated by the busi-
ness men All I have contacted so
far seem to think it would give
some degree of protection to their
customers a small item they can't I
do without And any protection of 1
their customers is protection for 1
their business—an Important ingre-
dient to keep Granite going so we
can keep the council going so they
can keep the local government go-
ing so we can keep the town going 1
for the customers
Its a never-ending circle of all I
living out of the same bucket
' Express your sentiments to the
council about the traine lignt—thev
would appreciate it They only want (
1 serve to the best interests of
the whole and cannot tlo so unless
i-ou cooperate with them They take
pit views weigh them and then de-
clde what is best for the majority 1
--the way they should do

Quite a number of citizens were
treated to their first sight of an
armadillo Friday at last week when
Cat Coffman displayed one on the
street Coffman and Leon Blasin-
game caught it Thursday night
while coon hunting
The armadillo that looks like a
hang-over from pre-historic days is
rare in this semi-arid country How-
ever they are quite common east
and south of here especially in east
Texas
Coffman - and Blasingame were
coon hunting on the river 14 miles
north of Granite when theIr dogs
run the armadillo into a hole
COffMall stuck a stick in front
of the armadillo and with Blasin-
pmea' help milled on the animal's
tail until tley got it out of the
hole But in the melee Blasingame
caught a claw in the wrist—this be-
ing the only scars of the battle
Coffman built a cage for the ani-
rict and had it on display all day
