Lyons enjoys musical
Walter Lyons, a country and
western artist and member of the
Ailey Studio and Lynda Gache
Studio. The trip will also include a
tour of the Statue of Liberty, China
Town, World Trade Center, United
Nations, Wall Street and other points
of interest and the girls will see the
Bob Wills Texas Playboys Band, was
born and reared in Altus. He record-
ed “Faded Love” with Bob Wills in
1963 in which he played lead guitar
Lyons’ first musical instrument
was a ukulele at the age of four.
When he was five, he iearned to play
the mandolin. While in junior high
school, his mother bought him his
first guitar at a local pawn shop.
As a young boy, Lyons taught his
friend, Forrest Lowry, how to sing
and play the mandolin. The two boys
were walking down South Main with
their guitars around their necks
when a restaurant manager saw the
boys and invited them in to entertain

ding sessions in 1965 with Bob Wills
and the Texas Playboys. featured on
the guitar.
In 1975, Lyons and his wife went to
Nashville and were guests on the
“Grand Ole Opry." Lyons was in-
troduced nationwide on radio by Bil-
ly Grammer.

well-known hobo “Box Car Willie.”
