Shadid told the board he per-
sonally would like to see the
new structure located in the
northwest corner of east city
park, which would be conven-
ient to both Altus Junior College
and for high school students.
“We feel that our school stu-
dents are the biggest users of
a library and we feel it should
be located for the benefit of the
most," Shadid said
He explained that Altus is
growing in such a manner it
“is practically impossible to lo-
cate a library in a central lo-
cation at the present time"
Several members of the coun-
cil present also agreed the city
park location would be “ideal"
for a library location. Members
of the school board also felt
the same when polled.
After the two groups arrived
at this conclusion, the council
informed the board they would
go to work on concrete plans,
plus a location.
When plans and the location
have been completed, the two
boards will hold another joint
meeting to get final approval
on the clause in the lease of
the present building.

Paul VI. back from a triumphal

a high Vatican source sai d to-
day
The Pope was cheered by a
million Romans Monday night
on his return from the pilgrim-
ace to the land of Christ's birth
Observers said the success of
his trip has cast him in a new
role as a traveling apostle of
peace and unity, and they pre-
dicted more trips for the
pontiff
The Vatican source said the
66-year old pontiff was expect-
ed to take a few days of rest
and then start work on the first
encyclical of his half-y ear reign.
They said it was likely to tell
of the sources of inspiration and
hope the Pope found in the Holy-
Land and reiterate the message
of peace he proclaimed from
Bethlehem
At a later date, they said, the 1
