Murphy Charges Committee
Exceeded Authority in
Setting Pay Flours
m000ftMoW0
Rejection by the state Industrial
Welfare Commission of the wage-
hour recommendations for drug
stores apparently was assured to-
day W A Pat Murphy 'commissioner
said he would never approve the
scales which the pharmacists' con-
ference committee recommended
yesterday ' 0
"I am only one inan of the three-
man commission" he said mOov E
W Marland apd Andrew Fraley
may approve: If so the scales will
become a law But I will be against
them to the end The committee
exceeded Its powers in setting wages
and hours for other employes than
the pharmacists"
Victory for Employers
Little likelihood of opposition of
the other two members of the com-
mission to Mr Murphy's stand was
seen however
The wage-hour recommendations
of the conference committee yes-
terday were seen as a victory for
the employer delegates
The drug employers represented
by Tom Roach Roy L Sanford and
Russell Randle succeeded Monday
in getting the committee to vote to
make the drug industry separate
from the cafe and retail mercantile
industries
Yesterday the employes and em-
ployers went into a closed session
In which they drew up the wage-
hour scales which were passed The
three pharmacists representing the
registered men originally to be Con-
sidered voted on wages for the en-
tire industry They were in accord
with the employers on the matters
of wages and hours for front end
clerks and soda fountain employes
and were voted down on their own
scale
Here Are Standards Set
Wages and hours recommended
by the committee for the entire
drug industry are:
