Boy Chained Tike
Stewart quoted Porter as saying, "I won a bet for
$20 from him. And the longer I sat there in the truck
waiting, the madder I got thinking he was trying to
stick me with $30 worth of cement to get even on the
bet.”
bed in his home here.
Sheriff T. O. Lang said
the boy told him he had
been chained to the bed "all
my life.” The tearful and
frightened parents insisted
he had been chained only a
few months "to teach him a
lesson.” The mother said
four months, the father two.
20-Foot Chain Used

DENVER (UPI) — Joseph Nelson was wondering •
Friday what to do about his car, which was full of
six tons of fast-hardening cement.
But he was quite emphatic that the truck driver
who dumped it there was no longer his friend.
The truck driver, Robert O. Porter, drove up to
Nelson’s home Thursday with a load of ready-mix con-
crete Nelson ehad ordered for a driveway and a patio.
Nobody was home, and as Nelson sat in the truck he
started thinking Nelson might not show up at all.
So he backed up his cement truck and unloaded
all six tons of the wet concrete into the back seat of
Nelson’s parked car.
"I cancelled that order at 3 p.m.,” groaned Nelson
when he returned home and looked into the automobile.
Trying to Get Even
"We'll take care of everything,” soothed M. R. Lati-
mer of Centennial Cement Co., who owns the cement
truck driven by Porter. “I suppose we’ll have to hire
a crane to move that car—12,000 pounds of cement,
imagine that.”
Porter told the manager of the cement firm, Ronnie
Stewart, that he had gotten the cement for him whole-
sale.
