Rep. Bryce Baggett. Oklahoma
county member of the commit-
tee, said Friday he is a member
of a subcommittee that will ad-
vance the simplified withholding
technique.
Baggett said he thinks the sim-
plified system will make with-
holding more palatable to em-
ployers across the state, many
of whom figure federal withhold-
ing taxes by machine.
Hopes of such a system, in
case withholding should be voted
into law on a state level, were
dimmed earlier in the month by

centage system look enticing.
The Oklahoma county legislator
said he and McCune will try to
get the full committee, headed
by Rep. James C. Nance of
Purcell, to change its mind.
"We might put in a clause,"
he said, "that would let em-
ployers use either system. Those
who figure the withholding by
machine might want to do it on
a percentage basis, and those
who figure the amounts manually
might want to use the table. It
might all depend on how many
employes they have.”

A bill providing for a state in-
come tax withholding system
probably will be ready next week
for consideration by a commit-
tee of the Oklahoma legislature.
Although it will provide that
the amounts withheld from sal-
aries must be figured individually
for each employe from tables
prepared by the state tax com-
mission, a less complicated sys-
tem will also be proposed.
A method of merely basing the
amount withheld from an em-
ploye's salary on a percentage
of what is withheld for the federal
government will be advanced
despite an earlier statement ty a
tax commission official that it
couldn’t be done.
The withholding measure Is to

He said that because federal

Baggett said Friday, however,
that he and Rep. John McCune,
Tulsa county member of the

Wilson showing this is not neces-

“The committee itself in-

the bill with a view of all
employers having to use the tax
