JOHANNESBURG, South Africa
(— The family of an African bish-
op slain at his home in the south
Transvaal had vanished Thursday
and it was believed they were in
hiding.
Bishop John Robert Douglas
Sims, head of the Christian Nation-
al church of Africa, died, Tuesday.
The attackers stoned the house,
fired a number of shots and then
threw gasoline into the structure
and set it afire. The bishop ran
from the house with his clothing
blazing and fell dead.
Bishop Sims, a former police
sergeant, had been called as a wit-
ness in the murder trial of seven
Africans. He was the second wit-
ness in the case to meet violent
death
Members of the bishop's family,
four adults and three children,
disappeared Wednesday.
