Reford Bond, corporation commis-

the Southwestern Bell Telephone Co.

“from its own figures” the company is
earning nearly 6 percent on its in-
vestment in Oklahoma.
The estimate was made in reply to
a statement from M. J. Stooker, gen-

"The company's last monthly report'
to the commission snows an invest- i
ment in Oklahoma of $51,620,000 with '
net revenue of $1,370,660, the engi- l
neer said. On an annual basis, Rich- ■
ardson estimated, the net earnings’
will total 12.340,720 for an annual re-
turn of 4.56 percent "on the com-
pany’s reported investment."
5.67 Percent Return Seen
- He added, however, that in recent
inventories the company’s properties
have been appraised at about 80 per- i
, cent of new cost, to account for de-
preciation. That figure, if applied to -
the >51,620,000 book value, would give |
the company a depreciated value of
about $41,296,000.
"With, a return of $2,349,720, this
< would show an annual return to the I
company of 567 percent," Richardson

tion the full amount of depreciation
claimed by the utility on its claimed

"That la democracy applied to busi-
new. And I stul belleve in democ-
racy.”
Richard H. Grant, vice-president of
General Motors, told the group that
the profit returns to all dealers in
1936 were better, but that 1137 will
be much better,
He predicted that new policies de-
veloped in the serles of dealer council
meetings will do much to eliminate
losses caused by over-production and
overstocking of dealers just before
models are changed.
Grant admitted that little has been
done to eliminate losses to dealers
caused by overbidding for used cars in
an effort to sell new ones, but pre-
dicted that his firm wiU solve that
problem eventually, largely through
better distribution of trade territories.
Other speakers were William 8.
Knudsen, president, and several repre-
sentative dealers of the organization.
The meeting here was under direc-
tion of the General Motors club of
Oklahoma City. R. W. Losey, rone
