After Fatal Explosion
JOLIET. Ill., June 6.—{P— Muni-
tions for America's fighter* rolled off
the Elwood ordnance plant line* in
volume Saturday while army official*
attempted to identify all the 51 per-

The blast destroyed a shipping

halted production in only one of the

loading lines calmly continued on a

CHICAGO, June 6.—(PP)—The gov-
ernment's power to keep domestic
wheat prices up is receiving the acid
test now.
Having helped to raise prices the
past few years through successive in-
creases in loan rates on wheat as each
new crop is harvested, the govern-
ment's ever-normal granary program 1
Saturday was being subjected to1
pressure associated with a new sea-
son and a surplus bigger than ever.
Prices Held Up
• Since before the war began in 1939
domestic wheat prices have been kept
above the world market by the ex-
pedient of holding grain in storage
through payment of high loans. Now
the domestic price around $1.19 for
July delivery, is almost 40 cents high-
er than Canadian wheat, 50 cents
higher than Australian and almost 60
cents better than Argentine.
Holding back grain from season to
season has resulted in accumulation
of the United States' biggest carryover
on record, two-thirds of which is in
the ever-normal granary. Another sur-
