bombardments, enemy naval activities
off the coast and action within the
country by enemy agents and sabo-
teurs were listed by President Avila
Camacho in a decree creating a na-
tional civil defense organization Mon-
day as the principal dangers confront-
ing Mexico in the present phase of
the war.
He said fhe danger appeared limited
for the time being to "sporadic" ac-
tions and that while there is always
the possibility of "special armed ag-
gression against. the principal indus-
trial and populated centers" that dan-

CHICAGO, Aug. 24.—(P— Within a
few weeks the greatest flood of meat

into the nation's livestock markets.
This will be the marketing of the

Influx Due in October
While the big increase in market-
ings will be hogs, livestock men said
any expansion in the supply of one
type of meat automatically eases the
demand for other types. 'Ilie Sep-
tember run of hogs at slaughtering
centers usually is larger than in
August and the big supplies begin to
pour in by October. Heavy market-
ings conlmile most of the winter.
Normally hog prices decline as sun-
plies increase. Last '.'ear, despite in-
creasing demand, there was only a
drop of about 1 cent a pound from ।
the average price in September to
that in December

CHUNGKING, Aug. 24. — (UP —
Japanese forces, driven from fl im-
portant Chinese towns last week, are
retreating toward Manchukuo like
"hungry dogs,” starved, fatigued and
ill, a Chinese military spokesman said
Monday.
Important positions have been
recaptured from the enemy along the
important Hangchow-Nanchang rail-
way that cuts through Chekiang and
Kiangsi provinces. On Saturday night
the eleventh city in a week fell to the
Chinese when the Japanese fled from
Yukan, on the southeastern shores ol
Lake Poyang, retreating across the I
lake to Nanchang.
Guerrilla activities that deprived the
Japanese of food and munition sup-
plies played an important pari in the
collapse of the enemy, and the suc-
cessful bombing of Japanese targets
by American planes apparently boost-
ed the morale of the Chinese.
