DENVER May I UP This week's
oil strike appears to have hit hard-
est at the production of high-octane
aviation gasoline the kind motor-
ists cant use.
It has fed to a decision by the
U. & Air Force to reduce trsining
flights to stretch lis stocks of fuel
farther. The order involves an esti-
mated U4U0 pilots at 48 U. &
bases.
So far however the average mo-
torist has had little trouble in get-
ting his tank filled. In most areas
filling stations have not yet placed
any restrictions.
Industry spokesmen in Melanoma
said there should be no shortage
of automobile gasoline in produc-
tion areas unless union workers
should picket stations. Crude oil
production in April was 530000
barrels per day. .
Oklahoma gasoline sales totalled
71&280.H7 gallons last year.

Case Of McGranery
Up For More Study
WASHINGTON. Mar I if) The
Senate Judiciary Committee will
take up Monday after a month's
delay President Truman's disput-
ed nomination of Federal Judge
James P. McGranery to be attor-
ney general.
There were reoorts that some of
the vigorous opposition which had
greeted the nomination was sub-
siding and it was not certain
whether McGranery or any other
witnesses would appear at the com
mittee hearings.
But Sen. Fersuson (R-Mlch).
who was among the first to chal
lenge the nomination announced
he will demand that McGranery
be summoned if be doesn show
up voluntarily and the office of:
Sen. Watkins (B-Utah) said Wat-
kins "will request that Judge Mo-
Granery be called."'
qaeitinas laieea
Both Ferguson and Watkins have
raised question about McGra aery's
role as e top Justice Department
official to handling prosecution of
thf celebrated Amerasia ease
which has become a red hot con-
gressional issue.
The case involved the discovery
in 1941 of several hundred govern-
ment documents largely from the
State Department in the New
York offices of Amerasi. a now-
defunct magazine which special-
ised in Far Eastern affairs.
Two of six persons arrested in
connection with the case paid
fines but charges against the oth
ers were dropped. The
meat's handling of the case at a
time when McGranery was No. t
man in the Justice Department has
come in for considerable criticism
from members of Congress
McGranery was elevated to the
federal bench in ISM.
