A t F,
Grady County's fiscal year 2011-12 budget
is one step closer to being finalized after
receiving a vote of approval Monday by the
county commissioners
The $4,099 million budget next goes back
to the excise board on Sept. 27 for the final
signing.
The budget is a modest 116 percent increase
over the $4,051 budget for the 2010-11 fiscal
year that ended June 30.
County Clerk Sharon Shoemake said county
employees won't receive raises. But the good
news is they won't face furloughs. reductions
in force or changes in the retirement benefits
either.
Grady County w ill continue to pay 100 per-
cent of the health insurance benefits for
employees. However, dependent coverage in
the coming year will increase $34.57 per
month per dependent to be paid by the
employee.
"This year the county can't cover it," Shoe-
make said.
Shoemake said in the past it was standard
practice for every office to spend down their
respective budget in the last weeks of the fis-
cal year But for the last few years, the offices
turn back unspent monies to the county.
"We all work understaffed and the excise
board sees that we all give back." Shoemake
said "(The officers) really watch the funds
and that helps this county a lot."
The county's income projection for 2011-12
is $4,089 million, down slightly from $4,165
million actually taken in during I Y 2010 11.
The income estimate includes $2.92 mil-
lion. current ad valorem taxes; $90,000. prior
ad valorem taxes; $13,000. auto stamps;
$3,000, farm implements; $52,000, motor

will be high up until then.
Thompson also announced
that a statewide exercise for
state and local government
