BECKLEY, W.Va. - Gasoline prices remain high
as the summer vacation season takes hold, but the
good news is that they should not get worse anytime
soon.
The Energy Information Administration
announced that summer gas prices have likely
peaked.
The prediction is the result of examining gasoline
pricing spreads, the difference between selling price
of a finished product and purchase price of crude
oil.
Nevertheless, Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., said
gasoline prices remain too high.
“That’s bad for Americans who are struggling to
make ends meet." Rockefeller said.
Much of Rockefeller's effort has been squared on
stopping the effect of oil speculators, a process
where betting on oil price futures drives up the cur-
rent market price of gasoline.
Although gasoline is about 32 cents per gallon
cheaper than last month, it's still more than a dollar
higher than the same time last year.
