Enthusiasm is evident at the 21st International
Chickasha Pre-War Swap Meet. The flyer urges
everyone to "Come celebrate the first 50 years of
the automobile!" and those in attendance Thurs-
day took that heart.
"You can find stuff here that you won't find any-
where in the country," said Jason Fendlason, from
Baton Rouge. La. "This offers old cars and every-
thing to go with them. Nothing here is after the
year 1945."
Joining Fendlason from the Baton Rouge Red
stick Chapter of Model A of America was fellow
auto enthusiast Charles Dupont. He is restoring a
1928 Model A Coupe.
"I've always wanted a Model A since I was
about 10 years old Now 52 years later it's happen-
ing. It's an answered prayer." Dupont said. I ve
bought a hood, tires, wheels and a carburetor."
Dupont, who has been restoring automobiles for
many years, said he owns five Model As and
three Model T's. He also has a 1951 four-door
1951 Ford Custom.
One of the vendors, Clarence Howland, from
Emporia, Kan., has attended the Chickasha Pre-
War Swap Meet every year since 1961.
"Haven't missed a meet for the last 50 years," he
said. "In fact, the same motel is here that I stayed
in back in 1961 for $3 a night."
Howland buys, sells and trades antique cars and
parts.
"It's my wife's. She wants to sell it," he says as
customers approach his table.
"I sell anything. If I can make 10 cents on it. I
sell it," Howland said.
The success of the meet, which is sponsored by
The Old Pueblo Touring Association, has been a
joint effort of Joe, Mike, Susie and Ryan Ersland.

a growing problem, and the public is
seeing first-hand how texting while
driving increases the chance of
being in an accident," said Ellis,

Research supports the concerns
