Mayor Greg Elliott is
extending an invitation to the
citizens of Chickasha to be
part of a strategic community
planning meeting to help
guide the direction of the
town.
“As I stressed in the city
council meeting, we really
want to see as many people
come out tor meetings, and
take the survey so that we can
get a better idea of what is
important to the people who
bottom and new on the top, mak-
ing it impossible to repair.
“There’s no way to lift the
bridge to put new pilings in," said
Lennier. "They would have to
pick up the entire bridge and
move it over."

Because the three districts
alternately repair bridges, the nor-
mal process for repairing or
replacing bridges takes two to
three years
“It may be a higher priority
now that it is closed than when it
was open," said Lennier.
Although Lennier did not have
an official traffic count for the
rural bridge, he said that while
there may be only five or six fam-
ilies living nearby, there is heavy
oilfield and farm traffic.
“Particularly in Grady County
there’s a lot of oil and gas pro-
duction, so this bridge has quite a
bit of traffic on it, he said.
Lennier said the trusses in the
bridge are still good and could be
reused.
“When it’s contracted out, the
contractor gets the old bridge lor
salvage," he said. “There’s still
some life left in that old bridge."

Grady County Commissioner
Mike Lennier recently announced
the closing of the bridge located
on CS 2790 just south of CR
1440.
The bridge was closed after
inspectors discovered wooden
wing walls and pilings of the
bridge are rotting, with four of six
pilings rotting on the south end of
the bridge and three rotten pilings
on the north end. Additionally, the
earth on the southeast side of the
bridge is severely eroded.
“With time, it erodes away."
said Lennier.
According to Lennier, two
commissioners ago, workers
removed the wooden deck of the
bridge and replaced it with steel
stringers and a concrete floor. As
a result, the bridge is old on the
