On Friday, September 8.
2006, Southwest Elementary
School in Chickasha wel-
comed many grandparents
and special guests into the
classroom to celebrate
National Grandparents Day.
In Jyme Tiner’s 4th Grade
class, grandparents joined
the class in the morning for
denuts while the all of the
children read aloud poems
they had written about their
relatives. The visitors were
introduced to the group and
asked to share their memo-
ries of their elementary
school days. And before
sghool ended for the day, the
3rd Grade classes held a
j nt reception in the cafete-
ria to introduce their family
members. Then, in the class-
room, the teachers, Summer
Caldwell. Sandy Crowder
and Angie Myers had the
children show their class-
room workspaces and pro-
jects on which they have
been working.
Although the childrea
have ben back to schoo foE
only-one mjonth, they were
able to show off their
progress, and the grandpar-
ents and special guests
seemed to enjoy themselves.
One pair of grandparents
drove down from Clinton,
OK. Southwest Elementary
was proud to welcome these
loving members of our chil-
dren’s families and recognize
them for the support they
offer their grandchildren.
Southwest Elementary is
working to strengthen our
connection with all of our
families and make a differ-
ence in our students' lives.
