of business men and women to purchase ani-
mals at the premium auction. They formed a
group and called themselves the Cartel. The
purpose of the Cartel is primarily to place
premiums on Bonus Auction animals. An
animal must make the sale in order to be eli-
gible for the Cartel Premium. Only one ani-
mal per student will receive a premium. The
Cartel places premiums on all Grand and
Reserve Grand Champions. Any remaining
funds are distributed as equitably as possible
between the schools in the Bonus Auction
that are shown by students from those
schools with an established 4-H or FFA pro-
gram.
The 2005 Cartel has two types of mem-
berships - Gold Members ($500 sponsors)
and Silver Members ($250 sponsors). Last
year more than $ I OO.(XX) was raised in sup-
port of Grady County youth who participat-
ed in the annual livestock show.
The Cartel in no way replaces or discour-
ages buyers from coming out to the Bonus
Auction. The Jr. Livestock Show Cartel's
goal is to encourage and support other pre-
mium sale buyers participation and atten-
dance at the Bonus Auction on Thursday.
March 2 at the Grady County Fairgrounds.
Booth space is available for commercial
exhibits for $50 or $100. The show will be
held Monday. Feb. 27. through Thursday.
March 2. The building will be open for set up
on Sunday. Feb. 26. from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Booths w ill be assigned on a first come first
serve basis. If you or your business would be
interested in having a booth at the show,
please contact 224-2216.
For additional information about how you
can help support the Grady County Jr. Live-
stock Show, contact Carl Venable.

The gene is a vital cog in
the body’s defense system,
coding for an enzyme that
helps kill invading viruses.
The men with the mutated
genes make fewer such

The virus was found in just

for the virus in the blood. That
way they could test thousands
of patients and non-patients
alike and figure out if there is
any link between prostate can-
cer and the virus, which caus-
es cancer in mice.
