DEAR DR. GOTT: My husband
had his upper large bowel removed
because of cancer. As a result, he
has no control and cannot even
leave home. His doctor says this is
normal for about six months fol-
lowing surgery yet it's a monumen-
tal problem.

LOCAL AUTHORITIES join the fight against drug and alcohol abuse not only on the
streets but also in the classrooms. Homeland Grocery on a local and national scale re*
cently sponsored a program charging students in their areas with the task of creating
posters expressing their ideas on fighting drug and alcohol abuse and reasons for saying
no. The posters were judged Saturday afternoon at Homeland by menbers of the Chickasha
Police and Fire Departments, the District Attorney’s, Grady County Commissioner’s and
and Chickasha Mayor’s Offices. Pictured front row left-right are, District Attorney-elect
Gene Christian, Grady County Sheriff Ron Taylor, Homeland Manager Steve Mayo and
Chickasha Police Chief Dany Sterling. Back row, Assistant District Attorney Robert
Beal, District 2 Grady County Commissioner Ealmer Klipple, Chickasha Fire Chief John
Clift, Chickasha Police Lieutenant Gary Bray and Chickasha Mayor Charles Ferguson.

trol pills, would - by stopping
menstruation - alleviate your symp-
toms. This medicine often sup-
presses endometriosis and may
permit you to lake the time to
make an informed decision about
which you can feel comfortable.
You may not need a hysterectomy
unless your symptoms are unman-
ageable and cannot be controlled
with hormones. Also, laparoscopic
surgery, performed through a small
abdominal incision, is often used to
treat endometriosis; this might be
an option for you to consider.
In my opinion, the chance of de-
pression would be minimal from
the hysterectomy itself. Rather, I'm
more concerned that the operation is
so final. Keep your choices open by
exploring other alternatives.
To give you more information, I
am sending you a free copy of my
Health Report 'An Informed Ap-
proach To Surgery." Other readers
who would like a copy should send
SI.25 with their names and ad-
dresses to my attention at P.O. Box
91369, Cleveland, OH 44101-3369.
Be sure to mention the title.

GRADY COUNTY 4-H OFFICIALS were on hand at the Grady County Commissioners’
Office yesterday for the signing of a proclamation declaring the week of Oct. 7-13 as
Grady County “4-H Week.” The commissioners said the 4-H Program, celebrating its 75th
year of operation, has contributed much to the health and welfare of the nation and has
encouraged many young people to choose careers which involve family and community
living. 4-H members put their skills to use in many 4-H activities and strive to “make
the best better.” Pictured seated left-right are, District 2 Commissioner Ealmer Klippel,
District 3 Commissioner Doyle Pendley and District 1 Commissioner Troy Streber.
Standing are, 4-H Agent Carl Venable, 2nd Vice-President Cody White of Chickasha,
President Angela Jackson of Alex, Secretary Tiffany Scoggins of Tuttle and Reporter Ani-
tra Nelson of Am-Po.4-H
