OKLAHOMA CITY (UPI)
- The Oklahoma Water Re
sources Board has approved
a $1.6 million bond issue to
help three cities keep pace
with water demands and alao
agreed to a $10,000 pilot
project for measuring rain as
it falls
The board, in a meeting
Tuesday, announced it had
accepted a bid for revenue
bonds that will help finance
projects in Eufaula,
Haileyville and Geary. The
projects have been stalled for
the peat two years, but board
members say they expect the
new proposal to be approved
by the state attorney
general’s office.
The board also agreed to
conduct a test program with
the University of Oklahoma
that will use computers to
help predict rainfall. The
plan, if It works, would allow
forecasters to spot possbile
flood conditions more quickly
by keeping continuous track
of rain as it falls.

Wha’n happened to change
her mind? Mostly, it was
getting involved in a four-
year study of Computer-
Assisted Instruction (CAI).
Her study, funded by a
grant from the National
Institute of Education, was of
the results of various com-
binations of CAI in math,
reading and language arts at
four schools in the Los
Angeles Unified School
District
Believer Ragosta says
"CAI is capable of im-
proving scores. We found that
20 minutes of math was beter
than 10 minutes; the more
years, the better.
"Having demonstrated
such promise, it says
something about the
system."
The initial acceptance of
then CAI program by
teachers was less than
wholehearted, due at least in
past to start-up problems
with the equipment and in-
terruptions to class routine by
beginning the program in
mid-year,” says a report on
Ragosta’s work.
But by the time the study
ended, moat teachers had

column They complained
now and then about
something computer users
everywhere complain about
