After You, Orville
75 years ago this Sunday, on December 17, 1903,
Wilbur and Orville Wright became the first human
beings to prove that a power driven, heavier than air
machine could fly. At the time, nobody paid much
attention. Only a few, newspapers reported the event
the next day. The U.S. government showed no
interest in the new machine Even Wilbur and Orville
doubted that airplanes would ever be able to fly at
night The brothers’ first flight lasted 12 seconds and
covered a distance of 120 feet Five other people
watched the experiment, and the Wrights tossed a
coin to decide who would pilot the airplane first.
Orville won.
DO YOI KNOW — Where did the Wright brothers'
first flight take place9

Sometimes when a
Christian osks me what I
am religiously, and I reply,
"I am a Christian," he
seems to think that I am
trying to evade the
question or that I am at-
femptihg to make a joke of
the matter it often
taken a, a mere pun for a
person to say that he is
simply a Christian. Often
the next question will be
I know but what kind of a
Christian are you?' Well
I reply not any certain
kind, just a Christian in the
some sense that people
ware Christians in
Apostolic days "Yes. he
replies, but I mean what

thereby becoming a
Christian, and when I did
this the lord added me to
His church (Acts 2 47). I
have never joined a
denomination at any time
in my life I claim to be
•imply a Christian. The
person who will lit down
and read the account, of
conversion in the book of
Acts cannot help but see
that this is the way it
happened in the First
century during the days of
inspiration.
Now we are forced to
| this conclusion if this is
what people did under the
direction of inspired men
then that is the way it
should be today We never
read in the New Testament
of any person joining a
denomination This is a
subject unknown to Bible
writers People in those
days became Christians
and ths some process by
which they became
Christians made them
members of the church
(Acts 2:36-47).
# we are to practice
New Testament
Christianity then we must
practice the Christianity
that was practiced in those
days And this means the
practice of un-
denominational
Christianity This is the
plea being mode by the
churches of Christ
everywhere We plead for
people to become and be
Christians only as they
wye in the first Century.
