Birthday Dinner
Is Scheduled
For Mrs. Hunt
By Abigail Van Buren
DEAR ABBY: Is it per-
missible for a girl to wear
her grandmother’s di-
amond for an engagement
ring? It is a perfect two-
oarat diamond in an old-
fashioned setting. I would
wear it just as it is so as
not to detract from the
sentimental value.
My parents say I may
have it if I want it. Die
man I am going to marry
is in the service and his
money could be used in
other ways. Besides, I’m
sure he couldn't afford to
get me a ring to compare
with my grandmothers.
Would this be proper?
SENTIMENTAL
DEAR CONFUSED:
Yes. They’d prefer some
thing in "currency" green.

DEAR SENTIMENTAL:
An engagement is a com-
pact of hearts. The ring is
from the man to his be-
loved to let the whole
world in on it. Just an
eentsy-weentsy diamond
from your intended would
have more “sentimental”
value than grandma's per-
fect two-carat rock. If the
diamond were HIS grand-
mother’s, it would be fine.
Too bad, the wrong grand-
mother had the rock.

DEAR ABBY: A co-
worker of mine recently
was married in Las Vegas.
Weeks later she sent out
an open invitation to their
wedding reception ad-
dressed to “THE GANG”
at the office. It was a
small printed card saying ।
the “reception" would be
at the American Legion
Hall on Sunday afternoon
from 2 until 4. On the left
hand corner of the card it
said, “NO GIFTS.” Then
on the right hand corner it
said, “MONEY TREE.”
Does this mean people are
expected to bring some-
thing for the tree? CON-

DEAR ABBY: You
made such a fuss about
the teacher who assigned
her students the task of
making a “family tree.”
You said it was an “inva-
sion of privacy.”
You showed your hand,
Abby. I'll wager that you
have never written to a
genealogical society re-
questing that they trace
your family tree. Are you
afraid of what they might
find? C. J. L.

EVERYONE LIKES to
see a handsome smile. But
Mrs. Albert R. Drescher,

Purpose of the organiza-

aiding in securing better
dental legislation, Mrs.

"BEGINNING with pre-
schoolers. we show dental
health films, distribute
thousands of pamphlets
and free toothbrush kits,”
Mrs. Drescher comment-
ed. “Also, we have spot
announcements on radio
and TV.”
Activities of the auxilia-
ry will reach a peak dur-
ing Dental Health week
