ATLANTA (AP) - Fed-
eral voting registrar* have
done a good job in the
south and have experi-
enced no problems with
white residents, says John
W. Macy Jr., chairman of
the U. S. Civil Service
Commission.
Macy said he did not
know if whites had
changed their opinion of
federal registrars, but
“they were courteous in
Alabama and Missisiippi
last week when I made a
tour. They said they didn’t
agree with us, but they
complimented the work of
four examiners."
“In the 72 day* we have
been operating, about 1,600
whites and 58,000 Negroes
have been registered in
nine counties in Alabama,
Mississippi and Louisi-
ana," he said. Registrars
are to be sent into 10 other
counties in the three states
and into two counties in
South Carolina.
