The Interscholastic track meet is over
and hundreds of students and citizens
have seen the University for the first
time Most of them have expressed
themselves as being well pleased with
what they have seen It now remains
for the students of the University and
its friends to supplement the impres-
sions received last Saturday with their
influence If this be done a very large
per cent of these high school students
will be enrolled in the University next
year
Last year the Oratorical Associa-
tion was reorganized and the business
management placed in the hands of
a council consisting of four faculty
members and four students The ad-
visability of such a council is already
apparent Last year the management
of the lecture course had proved
quite unsatisfactory and the Associa-
tion was more than $100 in debt This
year the Oratorical Council has given
a lecture course of excellent quality
for which it paid in all $48271 and
has paid on intercollegiate debating
expenses $15014 besides paying over
$60 on the old debt All told it has
raised and paid out for entertain-
ment and old debts $70305 Certain-
ly the council is to be commended for
such efficient and businesslike manage-
ment besides making it possible for
the students- to hear the best of high
class entertainments Already the
council has contracted an entertain-
ment course for next year at a cost
of WO A continuation of this policy
will clear the Association of all its
debt and enable the students to get
the benefit of a good entertainment
course at an average rate of about
thirty cents a number
