the pitcher to a full count and
pounded the ball over the left
center field fence to put the
Sooners on top 5-3.
The Wildcats got two more in
the third on a two—run homer
by Bob Randall. The Sooners
came back in the fifth with an
insurance run, and got two more
in the sixth to wrap up a 19 hit,
16 run day.
Oklahoma will go after the
third game in the series today
at 1 p.m. They are still tied with
Oklahoma State for the top spot
hi the conference race. Oklahoma
State swept a double-header
from Colorado yesterday winning
the first game 17-13, and taking

BOSTON — (AP)— Ken Harrel-
son cracked a pair of homers
and Tony Conigliaro, Rico Pet-
rocelli and Carl Yastrzemski hit
one each Friday as the Boston
Red Sox snapped a three-game
losing streak with a 10-7 victory
over the Cleveland Indians.
The Red Sox unloaded their big
guns against right-hander Luis
Tiant, who won 21 games with
a 1.60 earned run average in
1968. Tiant was battered for five
homers, five doubles and a single
before being shelled in the sixth
inning and taking his third defeat.
Supported by the heavy artil-
lery, Boston’s Ray Culp stagger-
ed to his second victory without
defeat. Culp allowed 12 hits in-
cluding bases-empty homers by
Jose Cardenal and Russ Snyder,
and finally left in the ninth.
ST. PAUL-MINNEAPOLIS -
(AP)—Tom Hall, a rookie left-
hander, pitched a two-hitter and
the Minnesota Twins whipped the
California Angels 6-0 Friday be-
fore a home opening crowd of
22,857 fans.
Despite a couple of fits of wild-
ness, Hall breezed to his first
victory of the season while the
Twins punched out clutch singles
ior all their runs and their fourth
straight victoy.
The Twins gave the 146-pound
Hall all the runs he needed in
Ace Helps
Dick Brown, the ace of the
pitching staff, helped his own
cause in the second with a double
off the fence in left center. With
two men out Bob Tate came up
and punched a bloop single over
the shortstop. Brown scored easi-
ly from second to put the Sooners
out in front 4-0.
Kansas State came alive in the
fourth inning starting out with
four straight singles. The bases
were loaded with nobody out
when Bob Gartner singled sharp-
ly down the left field line. The
runner on third, Waymire, scored
easily, but a perfect throw to the
plate by left fielder Ron Rowell
got Randall trying to score from
second. Parkhurst, who had to
block the plate to get the put
out was bowled over by Randall.

All-American center fielder, who
started the play on first, saw
Parkhurst on the ground and
tried to get to third. Parkhurst
picked himself up and fired a
strike to Bob Tate who was cov-
ering third to get Woolsey, and
complete the double play. Way-
mire was the only score for K-
State in the inning. The Wildcats
tied it up in the fifth with a
three run homer by Way mire.
The Sooners went ahead to stay
in the bottom of the fifth. Chris
Rickey grounded to third, but a
bad throw by third baseman
Dave Graas left Rickey safe at
first. He stole second on the first
pitch to Swenton. Swenton then
doubled into the left field corner
putting Rickey across and the
Sooners out front. After Terry
Schreiner struck out for the first
out of the inning, Ron Rowell
doubled off the right field fence
at the 380 foot mark to drive
in Swenton from second.
In the Sooner sixth Harrington
got to first on a slow roller to the
first baseman who flipped to the
pitcher. The pitcher couldn’t find
the bag and Scott was on. He
advanced to second on a wild
pitch. Bob Tape doubled to drive
in the next Sooner run. The se-
venth Sooner double of the game
was hit by Swenton off the bot-
tom of the left field fence to
drive in Tate from second here
end the scoring.
SECOND GAME
In the second game K-State
jumped out to an early lead with
a two—run homer by Woolsey.
Woolsey hit it over the center
field fence at the 400 foot mark.
Oklahoma picked up five runs
in the second as Harold Cow-
heard drew a walk to open the
inning. John Johnson, the
Sooners reserve catcher homered
to tie it up at two apiece. With
one out, Harrington walked and
stole second. Bob Tate also drew
a walk. Rickey popped to the
second baseman to bring up Mike

Help Sooner Double Sweep
By Dave Livingston
Sports Staff
The Sooner Basebailers took
another stride toward the Big
Eight Baseball Championship as
they swept a double header from
the Kansas State Wildcats, win-
ning both games 8-4. The Sooners
produced 10 hits in the first
game, seven of them doubles. In
the second game they picked up
nine hits, three homers, and two
more doubles, both by Mike
Swenton.
Swenton led the Sooner hitting
spree by pounding five doubles
and a home run for the day.
He scored one run in the first
game and two in the second.
The Sooners came out hitting
in the first inning. Scott Harring-
ton, the Sooner second baseman,
walked to lead off the inning.
Bob Tate, playing at short, dou-
bled moving Harrington around
to third. Chris Rickey singled
down the left field line driving
in Harrington and moving Tate
over to third. Mike Swenton hit
a fly to right center that bounced
over the fence for a ground rule
double scoring both Tate
Rickey.
