arose, and Senator Farha fin-
ally said. "The Senate is gasp-
ing its last breath. In the last
few months I have seen it be-
come an ineffective body I con-
sidered it important to select
good, competent people to fill
the vacancies to get the Senate
functioning again The spirit of
the by-laws say to fill the seats
fairly and unbiasedly, and I as-
sure you this was done. 1 have
done the most I can to get the
Senate back on its feet, and I
would like to see the ten can-
didates seated tonight."
Amid appeals of the president
and parliamentarian to keep
personal bitterness and petty
bickering out of comments and
to make questions germaine and
short, a motion was finally
passed to consider the seating of
the new senators. This brought
Senators to the floor from both
sides of the controversy.
Senator White pointed
that the interviews uere ab-
solutely illegal but advised the
Senate to go ahead and seat
the new Senators.
"It is crucial at this time to
have more than 28 senators
when our constitution calls for
40." he said. McCary then de-
nied Evans the privilege to
speak and announced "When the
Office of the Deans of Students
tells us who we can and can't
have as members in the Senate.
I wil personally resign but will
first try to see the Senate di-
solved as a non-working body ”
Senator White then moved that
the Senators vote unanimously
to have Evans speak This was
passed and Evans said.
