lishing Co was one of a group of Okla-
homa City men named by Mayor Allen
Street recently to serve on the advisory
council to act as his “cabinet” in com-
pleting the civil defense organization

Ardmoreite columnist has started his
fourth year as radio commentator on a
program sponsored by Hudson Hous-
ton Lumber Co The “Rambling Re-
porter” in the Ardmoreite said the spon-
sor leaves Blackburn free to express his
thoughts

Times publisher SajUisaw will speak at
graduation ceremonies January 12 at the
Oklahoma A and M school of technical
training Otmuilgcc As a representa-
tive of Oklahoma press association ad-
visory committee he has been helping
the school develop its graphic arts de-
partment Leon Skinner 13 Ardmore Daily Ard-
moreitc carrier was hospitalized No-
vember 15 after a car knocked him from
his bicycle while lie was delivering pa-
pers He was struck while crossing
highway 70 and the accident was termed
unavoidable after investigation He suf-
fered a scalp wound that required six
stitches

Star publisher a plane pilot and owner
flew four of his carriers to Norman to
see the football game between the Uni-
versities of Oklahoma and Missouri
The trip was a reward for a year’s out-

The Cushing Daily Citizen published
by O H Lachenmeyer has asked rel-
atives of overseas service men to tele-
phone information about soldiers at the
front — where they are and how they are
getting along The Citizen has also be-
gun the syndicated Bible lesson by Dr
Roy L Smith based on outlines ap-
proved by the International Council of
Religious Education

editor presided at recent workshop ses-
sions of the American Agricultural Edi-
tors association Chicago Typography
and makeup were featured Deering was
elected president of this association His
invitation from Oklahoma agriculture
and business leaders to the national as-
sociation to meet in Oklahoma in May
was referred to the executive committee
Howard S Cowan McAlester News-
Capital editor has been named- Pitts-
burg county’s best citizen for October
Best citizens are selected monthly by a
secret committee In making the an-
nouncement of Cowan’s selection L V
McCann chamber of commerce presi-
dent commended his community serv-
ice especially “in getting out a record
vote in the election” A best citizen of
the year will be chosen later
Rigby Owen former Ada Evening
News circulation manager for several
years has sold his interest in the Daily
World Opelousas La to John R
Thistlethwaite founder and editor
Owen has been publisher and manager
of the World since 1942 He will re-
main as manager until January 1 but
has not announced his future plans
The World is one of the nation’s out-
standing offset newspapers
Grant Keener editor of the Oklaho-
ma Law Review and University of Okla-
homa law senior is the first to receive
the James W Cochran Memorial award
which was established this year by the
law class of 1936 Keener and his sis-
ter Miss Lolita E Keener society writ-
er on the Daily Oklahoman and Times
came to Oklahoma from Rio de Janeiro
along with another sister Miss Patricia
Keener Lolita was graduated in 1948
and Patricia in 1949 from the Univer-
sity of Oklahoma journalism school
Forrest M Lewis is new circulation
manager of the Edmond Publishing
Co which publishes the Enterprise
Booster and Advertiser Since joining
the firm recently he has added many
new and renewal subscribers and the
company has bought a new Elliott ad-
dressing machine
Chester V Johnson Texhoma Times
publisher won a $5 check for his let-
ter to the Daily Oklahoman complain-
ing about the Oklahoman’s misspelling
of the name of the town of Texhoma
He gave the $5 to the town’s library
fund In the window of the Texhoma
Times newsplant is a drawing of the
proposed library
Mrs T J Coursey is new society edi-
tor on the Altus Times-Democrat suc-
ceeding Mrs Jack Clark who has joined
her husband in Dallas Tex where he
is in business Mrs Clark was filling the
place temporarily after the resignation
of Miss Pattye Gossett who was mar-
ried to Lt Morgan Lee in October Mrs
Coursey has written society and gen-
eral news on dailies in Lawton Altus
and Frederick
Edd Lemons who recently was named
vice president in charge of farm safety
Oklahoma Safety council formerly was
farm editor of the Muskogee Phoenix
and Times-Democrat He resigned as
Oklahoma A and M college extension
editor to accept the safety post He has
held positions as farm director of sta-
tion WKY Oklahoma City and as exe-
cutive secretary of the Oklahoma Fu-
ture Farmers of America
The Clinton Daily News printed a
story November 20 about Robert Dee
Howard whose last knowrn address was
route 2 Clinton He had a check for $71
coming to him from the war claims
commission Washington D C but the
commission was unable to locate him
after the letter was returned marked
“unknown” The News asked readers
to help find Howard World War II
veteran and former prisoner of war
“Coble’s Country Column” is the
name of the weekly editorial in the Stil-
well Democrat-Journal by Clark Coble
He took charge as editor three weeks
ago after buying the paper from Mr and
Mrs J C Hopkins Coble stated No-
vember 16 in his column that since this
weekly is small no fulltime reporter
will be hired but that all hands from the
editor down to the printer’s devil will
look for news items He asked readers
to help
Announcement is made of the en-
gagement of Miss Vivian Lenctc Tatge
Norman to Leland A Tenney circula-
tion manager of the Anadarko Daily
News Tenney is the son of Mr and
Mrs Arthur Tenney Hcavencr former
Stratford Star publishers The wedding
will be on December 26 at Norman
Miss Tatge is a junior in the University
of Oklahoma and Tenney is a 1950
graduate of the University of Oklahoma
journalism school
