Daily Democrat was unable to set all
of the news on the linotype machine
Tuesday June 8 and held it over until

The Daily Ardmoreite has received

Thomas on its 50th anniversary edition
Thomas regards it as one of the most
comprehensive he has received
Delmer L Dilbeck Norman who
was a senior in the University of Okla-
homa school of journalism the past year
has been inducted in the navy and is un-
dergoing “boot" training at San Diego

Lieut Richard L Martin former
aviation editor of the Daily Oklahoman
and Oklahoma City Times who is now
public relations officer for Tinker Field
and the Oklahoma City air depot control
area command has been promoted to
the rank of captain

Jeffersonian has been nominated by
President Roosevelt as postmaster at
Pryor Haskell Gaither his partner
will assume complete charge of the
Jeffersonian when Butler is sworn in
Butler will retain his one-half interest
in the business although he will give
up active connection with it
Color -comics are the latest war cas-
ualty of the Chickasha Daily Express
Because of the increased service to per-
sonnel and patients at Borden General
hospital and the war production
board’s reduction of paper comics
were discontinued As a result more
space will be available to maintain the

Miss Betty German Porter senior in

married May 30 in Weleetka Ensign
McWilliams is now stationed on the

versity of Oklahoma received an order
from the Egyptian library in Cairo im-

ship and curtailment of shipping have
caused difficulties in reaching subscrib-
ers Four new men have been added to
the staff of the Mangum Star it was
recently announced Brodace H El-

editor Jimmie Foster former associate
editor of the Arapaho Bee now heads
the job printing department Ray Heat-
ly Mangum is the Star’s new reporter
and James Daniels Mangum is mail-

a Mrs J E Herndon wife of the pub-
lisher of the Hydro Review was
awarded the “Good Neighbor Orchid”
of the Breakfast on Sardi’s radio pro-
gram originating in California June 4
Mrs Herndon was nominated by an
Oklahoma City woman because of her
services in publishing letters from mem-
bers of the armed forces Each week
the Review sends about 300 copies of the
paper to local men in uniform

more than 17752 column inches of
“free newspaper” copy in promotion of
the war effort in a single year’s time

played peacemaker last week between
a soldier and his girl at Henryetta The
soldier had come from Camp Wolters
Tex to attend the girl’s birthday party
but he missed it because his bus was
14 hours late Having only three hours
to spend in Henryetta and not beipg
able to find the girl’s address he went
to the Free-Lance for assistance Olin
“Si” Perkins city a editor printed the
soldier's story in his column “Editor’s
Corner” to convince the girl the soldier
was telling the truth
