Retirement
Can Be Fun
Says Woman
Life can be fun after retire-
ment Misa Grace lone Gobel
former YWCA executive director
hai found it so for she’s busier
and happier now than she ever
imagined possible doing work
with the foreign-bom
One of her pupils is the wife of
an ex-governor ex-ambassador to
Rio de Janeiro ex-minister of
education war and finance He
flew up from Columbia for a visit
to his wife and four daughters
who receive their education in the
United States and while in Roch-
ester Minn called on Miss Gobel
Miss Gobel has met at least 100
persons from 30 different coun-
tries since coming to Rochester
Quite a few wealthy South Amer-
icans come to Rochester to the
clinic for months at a time and
some put their children in school
Five from an architect’s family
have lessons with Miss Gobel
when none are in the hospital
One of the boys has just entered
junior college but still goes to
Miss Gobel four times a week for
class and private lessons
Her pupils have been in great
demand for programs and ar-
ranging these takes a lot of Miss
Gobel’s time
For a time she had as room-
mate a French teacher who was
bom in Egypt but is now at the
University of Minnesota working
on her doctor's degree Miss
-Gobel says she now has such a
large class of private English pu-
pils she does not need a room-
mate In fact she would not have
room for one in her apartment
large as it is since it has become
a center for the foreign bom of
Rochester as her hospitality for
which she was noted here mani-
fests itself
Miss Gobel was YWCA execu-
tive director here from 1945 to
1949 She resigned to take a simi-
lar post with the YWCA in Roch-
ester but has since retired

it was unlawful search and seiz-
ure Two deputy sheriffs saw the
cases labeled whisky being un-
loaded from the back of Edwards’
car They made the arrest

presence

slaughter conviction of Claude
Adams Osage county because of
improper instructions of the trial

He Likes Dogs So He
Goes to Their Rescue
OKLAHOMA CITY Feb 15
(A3)— Bob Meek says he likes dogs
and that’s why he paid attention
when a German shepherd ran in
front of his cleaning plant delivery
truck yesterday
The big dog barked like mad
and kept it up after Meek made
a delivery at a nearby home
Meek says he then looked in
the direction the dog was barking
and saw two other dogs flounder
ing in a lake nearby
So Meek went to the rescue He
edged slowly out on the ice and
reached for the two pooches when
the ice gave way and he sank hip
deep in chilly water
But the delivery man grabbed
both dogs and waded for shore
Did the dogs run for home?
“I didn't wait to see” Meeks
said “But I sure did”

A prompt boost In steel prices
was forecast
The changeover came at a time
when the nation is forging new
arms for defense against com-
munism The conservative oppo-
sition in the house of commons
had waged an unsuccessful fight
for years against steel nationali-
zation With the acquisition of steel the
government now controls all basic
industries including coal railways

in Prime Minister Attlee’s plat-
form when the laborites were
swept into power in 1945 Despite
the narrow margin by which labor
was returned a year ago the gov-
ernment squeezed the measure
through parliament turning back
repeated opposition confidence
challenges
The British steel industry turned
out 16293000 ingot tons last year
