psoriasis "under control."
With the right treatment,
psoriasis can be controlled enabling
you to live a happy and productive
life.
Loosen the shackles of sin, and set me free
To be an instrument to be used by Thee.
Help me to do whatever 1 can
To be a help to my fellowman.
To love my enemies as my friends.
Give me courage to the end.
Help me to be what You want me to be;

Psoriasis is a common
long-lasting skin disorder affecting
1-3 percent of the world's
population. Psoriasis may start at
any time in life, but usually starts
in your children (10 years or
younger). In psoriasis, you are
basically "making too much skin.:
This appears as red patches in
light-complexioned persons and/or
as dark patches in
dark-complexioned persons. These
patches are covered with loose
silvery scales which, if untreated,
pile up to make crusts.
"Making too much skin" means
the top layer of skin (epidermis) is
making cells much faster than
normal. These cells tend to stick
together forming the scales and
crusts. Although a lot of skin is
being made, psoriasis is not skin
cancer, neither is it "catchy."
Common areas for psoriasis are
the elbows, knees, and scalp, but
any skin area may be involved.
Sometimes psoriasis will make you
"peel all over." Sometimes itching
can be a major problem of psoriasis
as are roughened nails and joint
pains (arthritis.)
The cause of psoriasis is
unknown but there is a definite
hereditary tendency (runs in the
families). Certain factors (skin
injury, sore throats, stress) can
make it worse. Psoriasis lends to
last a life-time with times of
clearing (usually with treatment)
and times of worsening (which
cannot be predicted). Very rarely,
psoriasis will go away by itself.
Treatment for psoriasis involves
various combinations of
medications that stop the increased
making of skin. These medications
which are used under a
dermatologist's care, include various
types of steroids, tar, and
ultra-violet light In selected cases
of psoriasis, the use of retinoid
pills has aided in clearing extreme
or difficult cases. For extensive
