NSA
At last probably to the relief of both sides the NSA battle will
scon be decided Since the issue came up in the fall of 1960 the pros
have remained as pro as ever and the antis are still violently opposed
to the National students association
Leaders and supporters of both sides have talked until they're blue
in the face And whether they have accomplished anything or not
wen't be known until the final vote tally
Debates and forums have become a common event on campus
Union coffee breaks have at least been furnished with some stimulat-
ing conversation and arguments
Obviously the University of Oklahoma will not collapse regard-
less of which way the vote goes But there will be many side effects
— and the NSA controversy will undoubtedly leave its mark
Unfortunately student government here at OU is faced with a
paradox now In wanting to give the student body a right to exercise
its vote the student senate has brought up two issues to be put to a
campuswide vote NSA and direct election of senate president and
'vice president In doing so it is not hard to see that the senate risks
not having the campus support the things the senate supports
The majority of the student senators are in favor of NSA but
now it is out of their hands and into those of the student body
These first few weeks of school have shown many people more
politicking planning thinking talking and arguing than the U of 0
has seen in many a year
Regardless of the pros and cons of NSA as an organization it has
become the catalyst necessary to evoke worthwhile student thought
stimulation and opinion And surely this is good
BIG "D"
Poor Big "D"! The migration is on
Some year we should have Dallasites fill out a questionaaire as
to their opinion of the Sooners and Longhorns that invade their city
an
Obviously the liquor stores are wild with delight at the prospect
of having 75000 potential lovers of liquid refreshment
of course the men in blue I cops have to endure quite a
Wain on their humor and patience One can be sure that their life's
ambition is not to escort tipsy individuals back to their rooms or Codge
beer cans and bottles on their motorcycles
Nightclubs and hotels also manage a smile to greet the temporary
arrivals A closer look will tell someone though that their g:assy-
e3ed glance has dollar signs S ) in front of each eyeball
The Dallas state fair receives its share of the visitors too as Ok-
lahomans and Texans alike walk around with cotton candy smeared all
over their faces
"Dare-devil" students at last get to defy parental curfews as they
pursue the undefined joy of staying out all night However much of
their ecstasy is lost as they quickly fall into that immortal group
known as "members of the day after the night before"
Some people get drunk some people get pinned some do both
(often in that same order) they lose sleep get blisters from dancing
and walking and in the back of their minds they suddenly remember
the three Monday morning exams awaiting their return
But Dallas is fun — as is exemplified by its 56-year endurance
In conclusion OU's guardian angel (luck) bestows three wishes
on all I) Win the game 2) have fun and 3) pass those Monday exams!

Friday The 13th
By RUTII ANN CAMPBELL
Today is Friday the 13th!
Is this your good luck day cr your bad luck day? If you are super-
stitious perhaps you are already in Dallas If you are not you will
probably be the only one on the road today
Carol Harkins McAlester senior said "I am very superstitious
about this day and I don't like to take any added risks such as driving
on the highway so I am leaving for Dallas on Thursday" This is a
student who knows where she is going
Judy Jenkins Duncan junior believes that today may be the start
of a bad luck weekend because her pinmate wants to go fishing for
trout in Dallas and she wants to see "The Sound of Music"
Judy Bledsoe Lawton senior favors the number 13 because it is
her family's lucky number Her brother's football jersey is numbered
13 and her house address is 1313 Ash She is looking forward to this
as a good luck day
Some people do not worry about what day the 13th falls on Johan'
nah Cargill Lawton junior said "Personally I could care less about
superstitions As far as I am concerned Friday the 13th is no different
from Thursday the 12th"
Jane Winstead Houston senior said "It seems Eke everybody
dreads Friday the 13th but it always seems to be a good day for me"
Dayna Hood Durant senior said "This is a good day because I
am going to Dallas!"
If this is your good luck day or your bad luck day--GOOD LUCK!
