Free Landfill Days This Weekend April 21-22
Free Landfill Days for Tulsa utility customers are sched-
uled Saturday April 21, and Sunday, April 21-22, at the
Quarry Landfill on 46th Street North, approximately 1-1/2
miles east of US. 169 Tulsa utility customers can dispose of
unwanted items, with some exceptions

will be 700 a.m. to 300 p.m each day. The landfill closes
promptly at 300 p.m. Participants must show a City of Tulsa
utility bill or a driver's license with an address within the
Tulsa city limits in order to be admitted to the landfill
No items containing Freon refrigerant will be accepted
(air conditioners and rvfngerators). There will be a $2 fee
for each discarded tire. It covers state fees for disposal and
recycling of tires. Loads in trucks and trailers should be se-
cured and covered to present contents from blowing out
onto roadways and creating traffic hazards

opportunity to see a perform-
ance by the renowned El-
dredge Jackson, New |azz
Sensation who will provide
entertainment for the evening,
in addition to providing great
entertainment during this
event, the Links, Inc., will also
honor four individuals and
one corporate citizen for out-
standing service to the com-
munity. This year s honorees
are Jo Bnght, Samuel Combs,
III., Keith Jemison, Senator
Judy Eason McIntyre and
Goodwill Industries of Tulsa.
Jo Bright has been the
Director of the Salvation
Army North Mabee Bovs h
Girls Club for almost 26
years. She is a graduate of
The University of Kansas,

The goal of the Ozone
Alertf program is to main-
tain Tulsa's attainment sta-
tus for ozone thereby
ensuring healthy air. The
Ozone Alert! Program
brings citizens, business, in-
dustry and government in
the Tulsa Metropolitan area
together to voluntarily re-
duce ozone-forming emis-
sions on days vulnerable to
high ozone levels.
Ways to help take action
include: dnving less, avoid-
ing long idle times, refueling
in the evening and schedul-
ing gardening activities for
later in the evening or by
doing gardening activities
gasoline-free.

episodic approach to ozone

uses computer-modeled pre-
dictors to determine when
high-ozone levels may occur
Ozone in the upper at-
mosphere is a beneficial and
protective layer around the
earth, but ground-level
ozone is harmful air pollu-
tion that threatens health,
quality of life and the Tulsa
area's economic prosperity.
Ground-level ozone is
created when sunlight re-
acts with volatile organic
compounds (VOCs) and ni-
trogen oxides (NOX). Re-
ducing these emissions is
necessary to reduce ground-
