Why No Black Flyboys?
ENGLEWOOD, NJ. — Perry Jones, head of Black Airline Pilots,
says, “We had more Black pitots in 1942 than we do today.” An industry
survey shows that fewer than 1 percent of the nation’s commercial air-
line pilots are African-American. Although the armed forces has provid-
ed a wide range of career opportunities to minorities, 98 percent of all
pilots are White males.

Farrakhan Is Man of Year
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The national Newspaper Publishers
Association has named Louis Farrakhan “Man of the Year." In his 40th
year of public ministering, some believe the 62-year-old Jesus-quoting
Muslim has eclipsed even the stature of Martin Luther King in influence.
In Johannesburg, South Africa, President Nelson Mandela lecturer
Farrakhan on tolerance. Mandela told Farrakhan the South African
rejects racism and sexism and reveres all religions.
Mandela has called on Blacks and White tp come together since
White minority rule ended with his election two years ago.
Rep. Peter King (R-NY) has asked Farrkahan to appear before his
House International Relations operations and Human Rights
Subcommittee regarding recent meeting with Libyan leaders and his tour
of 23 African and Islamic nations.

Our 'History Eases Transition'
NORTHPORT, Mich. — Rev. Marshall Collins is happy that some-
times he can forget he is Black. He want to live in a way in which color
of skin does not matter. Collins sees Black history as a way to help race
relations. He is pleased that those attend his church include American
Indians, Blacks, Whites and Hispanics.
Learning Black history while he grew up in Maryland helped Collins,
now 65, to survive segregation, he says. He admires the capacity for love
and respect and also the persistence of Martin Luther King Jr. and
Frederick Douglass.
